If your compression in an admitted quick-n-dirty test is at the top end of the range, don't be so sure that's a fantastic result because the engine is so great.
Compression will fall from ring wear, and it will go up from carbon buildup. Generally the latter occurs first unless the owner takes steps to reduce carbon buildup. That's why older cars tend to "ping", carbon decreases the combustion chamber size at TDC, yielding higher effective compression, leading to pre-detonation and possible retarded timing.
Inspect for carbon buildup visually, and consider checking a couple of things to see if you're building up carbon faster than you should. (low RPM driving, choice of fuel, use of fuel cleaners, running too rich)
I'm not saying any of these specifically relates to green spark plugs, but higher compression readings are not universally better in all situations. Being within 5% of each other is a good thing in all cases.
