Just got a junk email from a Mercedes dealer. This is an extract from the beginning of it. I have highlighted in bold the bull. There is also a spelling mistake! In recent weeks, we have sold many pre-owned vehicles and we need to re-stock our pre-owned inventory If you own a vehicle and want to trade, or are looking to purchase another vehicle, now is the best time to get a great deal. New models are arriving daily and we have a large selection of pre-owned vehicles In addition, we offer a large selction of pre-owned vehicles

I get them from Honda saying they want my last CR-V, which was traded in already - at a Honda dealer! grin.

Yep, I still get these from Honda for my 2001 Civic that I traded in, at a Honda dealer, in 2010.

Poor guys have to sit around reading junk mail? The facts are that used cars are scarcer than ever, and stealers are out to get 'em. One of my wealthiest clients owns a Chrysler dealer and he wants my car BAD! That's only because he thinks he could make money on it, not because he likes me.

Just checking: the point was that the dealer says they need my car because they have run out of pre-owned and in the next sentence says they have a large selection of pre-owned available. I know that everything a dealer says is bull but have never seen them contradict themselves so obviously as this.

The Mazda dealer I got my RX-8 from sends me a mailer every 4-5 months telling me "were in desperate need of your Rx-8, our stock is low!!!" Ford dealer would send me letter's saying they gave my Lincoln LS a good inspection during my last service vist and want to get it in their pre owned lot. It's crazy the marketing gimicks these dealers are playing. My personal fav is when they send you the fakest looking key in the world then proceed to tell you to come in and see if it opens the brand new Cadillac in the showroom!!!!! And if it does, you WIN IT FOR FREE!!!

I got a mailing that had about four separate "bumpkin traps". There was the fake key, a scratch off "match this number on our website" ticket, a guarantee of winning either a car, tv, or million dollar lottery ticket, and something else. If you read the back adverts in the trade mags (automotive news?) they sell these things and some guarantee a certain % of floor traffic.

All of these are done by outside marketing companies. These are the same places that promise dealers increased service traffic and send out coupons for $15 LOF with wiper blades and a rotate. Of course you will get increased traffic, but its people use the coupon and buy nothing else.

There is no discrepancy in their statements. They can all be concurrently true. 1. What dealership dos not restock their used cars? 2+3. They may indeed have a large # of used cars remaining.

I wonder how many people show up with the key and try to open every caddy in the lot with their "key". smirk
