GR Corolla, 3cyl 1.6T AWD, manual, 300 hp

I thought we had another thread with some dyno runs...

I'd prefer a GR Yaris and hold the three outlet exhaust, but i give em props for building it and importing it.

I suspect these are on par with a Civic type R in the availability (sold out) and markup (substantial) department.

I would probably spend my 50G on a Mustang Gt base with nothing but performance pack.....

Reminds me a bit of the focus RS, which was an insane little scoot with a lot of TLC from the engineering department. It was an amazing car, though the infamous HG weakness really hurt its rep around here. Handling and willingness to play was superb. I’d expect the Corolla to have a shot at that segment especially if the engine holds up and perhaps the clutch stays solid.

Any news?

Anyone drive one?

Want slightly.

Drove all entries last year, The 3-cylinder engine is fun to drive and sounds good, it revs quickly, and gear ratios are short. However, the interior is very tight for North American standards. The dashboard feels like a rental vehicle, it feels cheaper than anything else in this segment.

I heard the tuning potential isn't as good, and also it has some cooling issues if you take it to track.

It gives you that 1990-2000s tuner car vibe unlike the other entries in this segment, I like it. It is not as serious when it comes to track lap times at least without any mods, but the fun factor is why you'd buy the GR. It makes you want to go flat-out everywhere.

However, my favourite is still the FL5 Type-R, it feels more special than anything else, and it is ready to hit the track from the factory.

If you want one hot-hatch for all weather or to do it all, the answer is the Golf R, preferably with DSG (despite having annoying touch-sensitive stuff)

Hothatches used to be affordable though, not anymore. Unless you really want this type of vehicle, you can get a Mustang GT or something similar instead, which is a better choice from the price/performance standpoint.

I don't think I will ever be able to get excited about a 3-cyl engine. Something about the lack of harmonics and general lack of willingness to rev high. I drove a number of 3-cyl cars mainly in Europe. They're all turds as far as I'm concerned.

Minimum 4 cylinders is where I draw the line.

A lot of people are saying this car doesn't make sense. That its too expensive, too small, etc.

The previous gen GR Yaris was not even sold in North America

North America is not the primary market for this car.

3200+lbs? That’s a problem.

Pretty good by today's standards imo, especially with shoehorning an AWD drivetrain in such a small car. By comparison an Evo 8 release 20 years ago was 3200 and the X was 3550 in top trim, but both with mechanical AWD systems which didn't help the weight at all.

100 horses per hole is the bare minimum

anybody who can’t achieve that is slacking

But when people build there own high hp vehicles they seldom do every part of them well enough to be able to expect the kind of long life that something with a factory warranty is designed to have.
