Got flipped off by a Prius driver

I was always taught that if there were people behind in a single lane and you're not traveling the prevailing speed, pull over to the shoulder and let other drivers pass. I've actually done it myself. Of course if this guy was hypermiling, then I guess it doesn't fit with with his goals.

I didn't drive aggressively. I followed a safe following distance, and my weaving was maybe 6 inches side to side for about 2 seconds. I thought I was just having fun. My acceleration to the speed limit on the main road was smooth and typical. I didn't try to make eye contact with the guy, but was looking right in the direction I was going to travel.

And no he wasn't looking for an address. We just came off of a side road and this was a main road that's nothing but industrial businesses for about a block. I think he was trying to get on the freeway.
 
You don't know what the 'deal is'? Weaving back and forth behind somebody is a way of trying to be annoying. You succeeded. And in return, as is often human reaction, he annoyed you right back. Not much of a quandary here. Yes, he was driving too slow, but it's not like that never happens. I don't see what driving a Prius has to do with anything.

If you were looking in the direction you were traveling, how do you know he flipped you the bird? I suspect, you stared at him the whole time you passed him. Again, being aggressive.

What if the Prius driver saw something that he felt it would be safer to drive at a slower speed? Is that OK? What if he just lost his job, and wasn't ready to go home and tell his wife? Is that OK? What if a family member just passed away?

I did not stare at the guy. He was turning right. I was turning right and into the far left lane. I was looking in the direction of my turn (looking straight would mean the opposite sidewalk), and it was hard to miss an extended middle finger. Before that it was a lane in each direction divided by a double yellow. Exactly how do I pass him there?

This was early afternoon. I make no assumptions, but I've driven many times in a bad mood, and I never flipped off anyone or drove slowly because of it. I've had people pass me many times thinking I was driving too slow, and I never got angry over it. I have never flipped anyone off driving before in my life. Maybe I was thinking it, but I would never do that. I've yelled at lousy drivers or people who nearly hit me, but have never flipped anyone off while driving.

Absolutely correct. By driving significantly slower than the posted speed that person is as much a danger as those speeding excessively.

We have these idiots here down south by the bushel, and these dolts NEVER have the courtesy to pull over to let others by. What's worse is when you try and pass them with the broken painted line they will notice you and suddenly speed up!!!

Exactly. The 401 routinely is 130+ up here in the left two lanes. There have been times when it is even considerably more than that.

honestly, anyone that regularly drives that road, deserves a Medal, and free Drinks in my book.
130kph=80.77mph

last time i was through there, we were going 90mph, in a fully loaded (Luggage and Fishing gear) Ford Aerostar(3.0l Vulcan) Pulling a boat, and we were being passed like we were poking along @45mph

Yes. Speeds on the 401 are usually somewhere between 130 and 150Km/h (max is usually just below 150, as 50 over can get your vehicle impounded).

So roughly between 80 and 90Mph.

Before the "50 over" stuff traffic in the hammer lane was often going even faster than that, LOL

Down east the speed limit is 110Km/h, so your 120Km/h (the average speed for most in the right lane area of the 401) becomes 130Km/h (20 over is pretty much the norm for traffic on major highways in Canada) and "hammer lane" traffic is 145Km/h+ (90Mph+).
 
I'm having to constantly watch the speedometer in the Buick. If I don't watch it, it'll drift
up to 90 mph in no time. That little Buick LeSabre thinks he's a Grand National.

In most cases I would assume that you were driving aggressively and deserved to be flipped off.

But this was a Prius.

They are typically driven by someone with annoying habits. Slowing down before a green light, just in case it's about to turn yellow. But then going through the yellow-red light because it saves fuel. Driving slowly in the left hand lane so that they don't have to brake for people in front of them. Coasting to a near stop before making a turn, ignoring that doing so wastes the gas of the long line of cars stuck behind them.

I have to commute on a highway that is near its capacity limit for a few hours in the morning and evening, and most of the day on weekends. Taking up 3x the space of other cars is antisocial. If everyone drove like that, we would need far more highway lanes.

I rented one. That little meter tells you when you are in electric only or in dual mode or in GTFO mode. A lot of people like to stay in EV mode, and it [censored] everyone off.

Probably not. In general I find most Prius drivers to be passive about people passing them. This guy just seemed so angry. Granted I only saw a half second of his middle finger, but that was enough to get his point of view across.

I got flipped off by an Armada driver last week.

There were probably six car lengths between me and the car in front of me. But he didn't need to be in all that space. He needed to be exactly where I was. Came over into my lane like I wasn't there. His front tire was even with my passenger front door so I am sure he could see me.

I lifted off the throttle and gave him a friendly tap on the horn. Just a "BIP"! Like, "Hey! I'm here."

He slammed the brakes, cut off the car behind me swerving into my lane, floored it and roared around me on the left still partially in my lane with his middle finger sticking out of the window.

What a guy.
