Goodyear TripleTred or Michelin Primacy MXV4?

Have a set of the TripleTreads on my wife's Mazda 626. They handle the Chicago winters well. My only complaint is they seem to have cupped more than they should...but that could be because of the leaking aluminum rims.....

Semi-gravedig!

Leaning towards the MXV4 right now. My folks have a V rated set on their 2006 OBXT, and while it has yet to see snow, they handle the dry predictably and the wet admirably. I'm weary of the unidirectional GYTT. The car came with Potenza G009's on it, which are wearing great. But I can't stand them. Noisy, terrible in winter conditions.

Unless the $70 rebate on the MXV4 comes back soon the only other contender is the Nokian WR G2. Only a few bucks more a tire when the MXV4's aren't on sale. Seem to be wonderful tires, but I doubt I'd get the life out of them I'd expect from Michelin.

I think the Michelins are a better tire than the Goodyears. Check out the Michelin Harmonys/Destinys(if you buy them at Discount Tire). 80,000 warranty, less money, and good reviews on Tirerack.

Handling is not as good with the Harmony/Destinys.

In addition, the Harmony line doesn't come in anything more than an S/T rating. An Outback may require an H-rated tire or above, I don't know. Most of the Goodyear Assurance TT line and all of the Primacy MXV4 line is H-rated and above.

Michelin gets my vote, but Goodyear has come a long way in the last 5 years or so.

Graaaaaaaaaave diiiiiiiiiiiiiig. (Belated Halloween zombie post)

Picked up the MXV4 from Discount Tire a week or three ago, they're good so far. Quiet ride, 3 tires needed 1 weight, 1 tire needed none. Got a fresh alignment and a $1500 mile roadtrip in a week and a half to see how they do.

I'm expecting good things and look forward to testing their snow/slush/ice performance.

I miss the GY TT on my car. They aren't available in my current size (215/45/17). The only good non high-performance tire is the General Altimax HP, which I think I'm going to go with sometime next year.

215/45R17 is a pretty common size, with a number of good tires available. If you're looking for a good all-season tire for it, any of these would make good choices:

BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S ($105)
Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid ($111)
Continental ContiProContact ($126)
Firestone Firehawk GT ($121)
General Altimax HP ($94)
Kumho Solus KH16 ($91)
Michelin Primacy MXM4 ($175)

You specifically talked about "non high-performance" tires. Among this group, the Kumho Solus KH16 would probably be the most "tame", and is a pretty decent tire. You can say the same of the Continental also, although I'd probably prefer the Kumho for your application.

Lol funnily enough, the Kumho KH16 are the OE tires on my focus. I want a tire that has a treadwear warranty on it(hence why not the UHP tires, they have like 30k mile warranties) I'm looking at the Generals, like I said. The continental also looks pretty good. Not really sure yet.

If you like good Treadlife Warranty, Yokohama AVID ENVigor with UTQG 560 A A, 5 years / 60k miles for H and V rated or 5 years / 45k miles for W rated.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS with UTQG 540 A A, Treadlife Warranty 6 Years / 50k miles

Totally different tires. The Primacy is more on the cush side of things but it can hold its own ground as well. The TripleTreds offer wet weather traction.

TripleTreds on my Volvo. It took seven tires to find four round ones...the others were egg shaped. These are H-rated, and they started off firm and got hard. Wear is OK, but the harshness over bumps makes me about ready to replace them even though they still have safe tread. I do not recommend them.

I decided on the MXV4 after my last set of directional tires, Potenza G009's that got "drive you crazy or crank up the music" loud as they wore down. And the $70 rebate made them about $100 cheaper than the Nokian WRG2 I was looking at.

Thusfar, I'm happy with them, we'll see after a road trip and some (hopeful) snow.

Luck of the draw. Had Michelin Primacys,Michelin Harmonys/Destinys,and Goodyear CT Touring sets, and the GY CT Tourings only required 1 tiny weight on 1 tire. The Michelins required larger weights on more tires.

I had the Primacy's on my 06 Accord up to this weekend. Got 63K out of them, as I have with all my Michelin's. So, I had to order new ones. Looked at Primacy at tirerack and even called a local distributor, they are pricey! Had good luck with Yoko's on my truck and saw at tirerack they had yoko's Envigorators, 60K tires with warranty for about 40 bucks per tire less. Got about 100 miles on the new ones now and I like them. Like them a lot.

I prefered the ride quality of the Harmonys/Destinys vs. the Primacys on my stiffy suspended 02 Accord V6. The Primacys were much more quiet at 60 but were more harsh over bumps.
