So Mobil1 has changed their m1c-251a filter, there's no steel end caps on them anymore. Is there a good quality equivalent that I can get locally? The car gets lots of highway, and stop and go city driving, in TX heat. I was thinking about the Fram Ultra guard? Using Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20, car is a 2015 Toyota Camry w/ 2.5.

I use Purolator filters mostly. Purolator One is rated for 10K, the Boss 15K. Either will do a good job on your Toyota. Filter model PL25608.

Welcome!

The only filters for that car that have metal end caps are the TRD filter at the Toyota dealer, and the Royal Purple filters (I think Pep Boys sells them).

You don't need metal end caps, or even any end caps at all. The OEM Toyota filter doesn't have any end caps.

My choice would be Mahle OX414D1. It has felt end caps, but it is a very high quality filter. Sometimes Napa puts their Platinum filters on sale (they're not on sale this month, though). Napa Platinum is Wix XP. Part number 47047. The Fram Ultra you're considering is also a good filter.

I much prefer filters with no end caps. Why are you worried?
Exactly, some Toyota OEM filters have no end caps at all.
Pretty much any filter will perform well, go with Ultra if it makes you sleep better

I use the Napa Platinum (same as a Wix XP) they are rated for 20,000 miles. I picked up about a half a dozen in April when they were on sale for $5.99/each. Combine those with your favorite flavor of 0W-20 and you’ve got yourself a winning combination. I have a diverse inventory of cartridge filters for the Toyota 2.5/3.5 engines. I like to try a little bit of everything. A Napa platinum is currently in our 2016 Sienna and I’m running the Fram tough guard in my 2008 Sienna.

I noticed that when I bought my Mobil filter, decided to move to the Toyota TRD filter for my next change.

The TRD, RP, and Amsoil might even be the same filter. So if you like that filter, get whichever brand is the best price
The RP has some differences that make it, IMO, the least desirable of the three. I was looking for the video that compared them, but have not yet located it. The RP has a different way of joining the ends of the filter medium and a different pleat count. Not to say it's a bad filter, just different enough that I have a preference. If I find the video, I'll post it.
