Good inexpensive brake pads?

Try rockauto.com They have a wide variety at competitive prices. I would give centric a try. They are priced cheap and I have never had complaints. Also, look for a coupon code. Most of the time it is 5% but it is better then nothing...

Akebono ProAct is one of the few brake pads that's still made in the USA, and it's not very expensive. Most part numbers cost under $50 on Amazon.com, with free shipping. They have good reviews.

+1.
I recently saved my dad a significant amount of money by ordering rear pads and rotors at rockauto.com for his Pontiac G6. I used Centric pads and Raybestos rotors.

I also saved him some money on shocks, struts, and upper strut mounts. Rockauto.com is excellent.

Please get at least a mid grade pad.

oh yeah there is no way I am letting anything below midrange go on there. One they will need replacement so fast that it will cost more in the long run and two who knows how good they are at stopping.

I have used lowest level of Duralast on many of my cars. They stop my SAABs, Hondas, Toyatas and other cars very well. Lifetime warranty means no free brakes for as long as we own the cars (we do our own brake work).

We put a whole lot of miles on our cars so some of our higher mileage cars have received this benefit multiple times.

Not advised if you do not do your own brake work, they don't last as long as other brands. But we we've stuck with them because they do stop the cars very well.

I have had Duralast semi-metallic pads on the front and rear of my wife's Honda for almost 3 years now. I have had the same semi-metallic Duralast pads on my truck for 18 months. We have had absolutely no problems at all with any of them and they all still have plenty of friction material left on them. $26.00 a set with a lifetime warranty. That's plenty good enough to suit me.

i put the cheapest semi-metalic pads from autozone on my 2005 nissan altima a couple years ago. Got pulstation within 6-12 months and less than 10000 miles and the brakes were not abused at all. The pads were like $20 for front and $20 for rear.
I ended up replacing all 4 rotors and pads with stuff from carquest and was very happy. I used carquest's best ceramic pad though, was under $400 for everything I think.
I would go with pads from napa or carquest over all the other brands.

Okay what do you guys think of this set up

On the back
Raybestos PGD782M Professional Grade Semi-Metallic
Raybestos 76316R Professional Grade Disc Brake Rotor

on the front
Raybestos ATD730M Advanced Technology Semi-Metallic Disc Brake Pad Set
(The fronts have enough on them and can be turned.)

just on the brake parts a bit under 100 after rebate

then new hub assembly up front
Timken 513089 Axle Bearing and Hub Assembly

Then with the hub right around 150 total for all the parts.

I have Raybestos in my Equinox now and I have been pretty unhappy with them. Two years in and the rotors are causing vibration and the brakes dont feel as strong as they did with the OE. My malibu on the other hand has Centric rotors and Duralast CMAX pads and they stop on a dime with very little dusting.

If you email Raybestos with those part numbers, they'll tell you the country of origin, if that matters to you.

The rotors will be Chines, but I'm not sure about the pads.

What is considered inexpensive? A week ago I saw Akebono ProACT set for my car on amazon.com, sold for under $50 directly by Amazon.com (not their third party affiliates), with shipping included in the price. Considering this is a premium "Made in the USA" ceramic brake pad set, the price is great. The Duralast Gold was available for about $30 from AutoZone, but only in organic formulation for my car. (I have nothing against organic, but I believe most of the good reviews of Duralast Gold pads are based on ceramic version).
