I have a 2006 GMC Canyon with 76000 mi. I'm thinking about switching to Mobil 1 10-40 high mileage. I have always used M1 10-30, but now I notice a slight oil consumption. I'd like to hear what others thinkk

Will not hurt anything.

Old Volvo leaked about 3 quarts in 1k miles of a fresh oil change (rear main seal was shot) anyways I started putting 20w40 oil lose went down significantly and never had any adverse problems.

But people will tell your to follow your manual.

Firstly what is your oil consumption?
M1 10W-30 is a light 30 grade oil. Their HM 10W-40 is a very much heavier oil.
I'd suggest first trying the regular M1 5W-30 which has a higher high temp' viscosity. Another option would be the heavier M1 HM 5W-30 but only if your oil consumption is unacceptably high.

It uses very little with no leaks. About a half quart in a 1000 miles. here in S. fla where it is in the ninties iI just thought 10-40 would be better. I drove a 1993 S-10 2.8 150000 milea and always used Mobil 1 15-50 never a problem. Also I tow a 3500 lb boat often
