Got one that even I'm a little stumped on (software engineer). Wife noted that she can't see all of her e-mails in Gmail, was missing an important e-mail from stepson's school. Finally found the missing e-mail by searching for the sender, saw what date it was sent and it was in her inbox. She has no filters turned on, no forwarding, and no blocked addresses, but it was supposedly in her inbox. Scrolled down to the date range, but it just doesn't show. Was a legit e-mail from the school principal. Any ideas on why it won't show? Wasn't flagged as spam, or routed to junk mail. Googling just turns up "turn off filters", but she has no filters.

Gmail can be buggy at times. I'm not surprised by your wife's experience.

Back in the early days of Gmail (remember invites?!), I logged into my account one day and someone else's account (along with all their emails) loaded on my browser. I still remember the username. Ha. It was kinda wild.

My first response would be to click the Setting icons and examine what is going on under "Inbox Type": Depending on what is selected emails in the Inbox may be separated into a variety of headings or (re-)ordered based on criteria other than date, etc.

My next guess would be that the individual message had been Archived; but if that were that case a search for the sender would not indicate the message's location to be "Inbox".

Yes this. I got rid of those goofy classifications and get all of my mail in one box only.
