GM using anything special in there oil for break-in?

The only thing GM may be using, besides the oil itself, is some GM E.O.S., which stands for "Engine Oil Supplement". This is an additive they use for the "break-in" period for GM cars.

E.O.S. has high levels of zinc, which helps the major metal parts during the "break-in period".
It's also used to "break-in" rebuilt engines.
They sell it by the quart at dealerships.

All you would have to do is ask your dealership where you bought the truck, if GM uses E.O.S. in your vehicle.

If you do a search on this site, you'll find some information about GM E.O.S.

This may bring shivers up some peoples backs, but I ran the wifes 2004 EcoTech 2.2 powered Malibu 4000 miles on the factory fill, before changing it out to Pennzoil 10W30. It has Amsoil 5W30 in there now, and will be changed out to GC this week sometime.

I ran my Duramax to 2600 miles on it's factory fill.

Crisco?

They are some heavy vehicles...

I think they have a gasket-eating material and possibly some piston slap sound amplifier in their break-in oil.

As far as I know, it's straight Mobil dino... except in top of the line Caddys or Corvettes which see Mobil-1. This is my 3rd straight GM bought new. I run factory-fill dino for 3.5K... then switch to synthetic. Nothing strange ever shows up in my oil bucket.... no metal shavings, bolts, fingers...lol

I changed oil at 500 miles on my '05 GXP and it came out olive green. I was told GM dyes their factory fill oil for leak detection purposes. It sure looked strange. (however I cheated and didn't change the filter at 500 miles).

I plan to change it again this weekend now that it's hit the "big" 1500 mile mark. (this time it get's a new filter). After that I'll take her up to 5000 miles and make the switch to Mobil 1. After that I'll just wait for the DIC to go down to 20% and use that as my ongoing oil change point.

It contains lots of assembly lube and and whatever else made its way into the internals before it was sealed up.

I know I have a problem which prevents me from sleeping at night with the original fill still in the crankcase of my new vehiclewhen it's parked in my garage.

Others, such as Pick, either do not suffer from this affliction or have been successfully treated for said affliction.
