I think it's becoming an accepted statement, because nobody has yet released a conventional oil that meets dexos. Since the AC-Delco dexos approved oil is a syn blend, I think that sort of demonstrates the minimum formulation required to meet the spec. (But I don't doubt that Castrol will try to undercut it!)

Any brand name api SN Full Synthetic oil should exceed dexos1
Esp if you look for something with additional specs on it.. ala Mobil 1 5w30

not saying o'riellys or supertech would... it might or might not.

Why not just use the 5-30 that it calls for?? not sure why you would care what 5-20 would do

I wanted to know if 5W-20 still had the same ingredients as the 5w30 to meet dexos and this wasn't just a viscosity thing.

Not necessarily true in all cases. dexos1 has more stringent performance requirements than SN.

I haven't either, seen any OTC Syn/Blend oils that meet Dexos 1(a syn/blend itself), only OTC full Synthetics that meet this spec.

And I am only now seeing this spec on the bottle label as I had just recently(~a month or so ago/and posted here)looked at many of the bottles on the shelf at W*M & AAP and couldn't find any oils including full Synthetics that stated this spec(Dexos 1) on their label.

If any members here remember my post at that time, I was with my buddy(who had just purchaced a new '11 Equinox) and he couldn't find the Dexos 1 on the labels either. In my post here @ Bob's, I had asked if, "we should be looking on the bottle label for a...GM #(representing Dexos 1) or the wording Dexos 1?"

Although the new SN/GF-5 oils are on the shelves and this is what we were looking at, we still didn't see that spec.

Just the other day while shopping, I spotted it @AAP and I wasn't even looking for the Dexos 1 spec

Dexos 1 calls for a strong 'blend'. Most blends are 15-30% synthetic; some even less. Dexos needs a 40%(IIRC) 'blend' to pass its specifications.
