I think it's becoming an accepted statement, because nobody has yet released a conventional oil that meets dexos. Since the AC-Delco dexos approved oil is a syn blend, I think that sort of demonstrates the minimum formulation required to meet the spec. (But I don't doubt that Castrol will try to undercut it!)
