I've gotta pull the shafts from a '13 10bolt in an Express AWD.

The ABS tone ring (which I believe was only used for two years) seems to just kinda "press" on to the shaft with a rubber ID. I gently pried the shaft out and now the interior rubber appears a bit torn up.

I wasn't sure what else to do as the tone ring lives inboard of the wheel seal and wheel bearing, so I think it has to come apart this way? Is it acceptable to just reinsert the shaft and push it in? Again, not sure how you'd do it any other way but maybe I'm overlooking something

Ultimately the tone ring just has to "hug" the shaft enough to rotate with it I guess

I think you should be ok reusing that since the 10mm bolt holds it secure. It would be better to replace but given the outside diameter seems to still be ok to seal I would try it if you can't easily get a new one.

There's a 10mm bolt for the tone ring? How do you access that?

I did find it on RA.

But it seems you put this in, then press in wheel bearing, then wheel seal, then axle shaft.

When I pulled the shaft it almost seemed like the interior rubber was bonded to the shaft, but if true that would make R&R impossible

I think this setup was only used for '12 and '13 or '13 and '14 (don't remember)

Or at least on the Express 1500 that particular wheel speed sensor (electrical) only fits two model years.

The procedure you used to remove the axle is correct, When the tone wheel sits on the axle to long the rubber bonds to it.

Install the tone wheel on the axle & chuck the axle in your lathe.....If there's not a ton of runout & the wheel still has good grip, Reuse it.

Edit....Guess you don't want to pull the axle bearings & seals?

I had the EXACT same thought about concentricity! If it spins eccentric and hits the WSS, that'll cause problems (or maybe self-clearance if just a few thou LOL)

But yeah, I'm gonna risk it. Actually I could check it thru the WSS hole with fat tip on DI!!

AND THANK YOU for easing my concern! I was waiting before pulling the other side in case I screwed up
