Yes, another GC thread.

Currently using M1 5w-30 in my Vue. Curious to see if anyone has anything postive or negative to say compared to the thinner 20wt oils Honda wants us to use.

Has anyone used GC in their Odyssey, Pilot, MDX, 2004 Saturn Vue, etc???

Your thoughts & comments...

GC ran beautifully in my 3.0L Camry (before I traded it...) and it's running great in my wife's Sequoia right now. But the Toyota engines seem to like a slightly thicker oil than the Hondas. This may be an overgeneralization, but do keep in mind that you'd be using a very thick 30, nearly a 40, in an engine whose manufacturer recommends a 20. It may do fine, just recommend you give this some thought.

Someone here on BITOG sent me a page from a European owner's manual for an '04 Accord V-6. It shows 20W-50 as being appropriate as long as the temp is above about 10 degrees F. My dad is currently running Delvac 1 5W-40 in his '04 Accord V-6, and hasn't had problems yet. It is his first OCI after the factory fill (which we changed out at 5k miles) and we don't yet have any UOA data. No unusual or annoying engine noises however...

I'm convinced, I'll be "going green" in the Vue come next OCI, by December, or when I can't wait any longer.

I ran GC in my 3.2TL (non type S) last summer.
As stated it is on the thick side as compared to RP, and RL. I lost a little MPG with the GC.
The engine just didnt quite have the same snap it had with the other oils. Did it work well and protect my engine ? I'm sure it did...

M1 0W20 is going in the next OCI.

I was under the impression that any of the 5W20 oil usage was simply to bring down the CAFE numbers that the Manufacturers need to meet each year.

Toyo,

Keep us posted on the fuel economy with the GC versus M1. The wife has an 04 Odyssey with 5,500 miles on it. I have considered the Mobil 10w-30 since it is a thin 30 weight with few VIIs. I am also considering the more radical solution of the Redline 5w-20 since its the equilavent of other's 30 weights.

I will be interested to see if your fuel mileage drops off like ekpolk's old Toyota did with the GC.

I've had M1 0w20, M1 5w30, and GC 0w30 in my '02 V6 Honda and any change in gas milage gets washed out by noise of the other variables.

ya, my TSX lost some MPG at beginning when i out in GC, but it can be engine breakin, or weather. it's getting better now but i am not sure if M1 will be even better. i also notice the engine does not rav as freely with GC. but keep in mind this is a 2.4L, and you may not feel it with 3.5L engine!
