I have one similar to this, and it has never ever failed, the one I have isn't cheap quality I guess, the concept is simple enough, once it grips and helps loosen he filter with ease...

I too have one almost identical to this, it works, but the biggest issue i have is getting it to stay tight/against the filter whilst i start the ratchet.

I have one. I duct tape the top of the filter so it’ll grip better.

I was very happy to have the Gearwrench ordered from the link today. My filter cap kept slipping on the Fram XG7317 on the CRV and it wasn't coming loose easily.

I'm not sure how I tight I made it last time but it was on there.
