so i see engine oils can shear pretty badly in some applications and that's part of the reason it needs periodic changing

but what about gear and diff oil ?

they have a hard enough time with hypoid gears, ball and roller bearings etc, but i would guess 99% of vehicles go to their graves with the factory fill

All oils shear.

Engine oils have it easier.
A trans or differential really grinds and physically shears lubes.
Full synthetic lubes are much better with this.
This is one reason I like full synth lubes in trannys and rear ends.
