Hello.
Two questions:

1.
I'm running an auto-locker (Aussie Locker) in the rear differential of my 1993 Land Cruiser. Although the minimizing noise from the locker would be nice, my primary concerns are performance and protection. The manufacturer suggests using whatever oil is spec'd for the vehicle (80w90). Is there any wisdom here that would advise otherwise?

I tried some 85w140, but soon went back to 80w90 when I developed a loud whine on cold mornings.

The vehicle gets driven off road, heavily loaded, several times per year.

2. Also, what about less expensive dino oils at high drain/fill frequencies vs. running expensive synthetics for longer intervals?
With the dirt, dust, and water-crossings, I expect the fluid in my diffs to become contaminated quicker. Also, moly grease from the front steering knuckles tends to migrate into the front axle housing over time--so that fluid eventually gets contamination from that source as well.

Thanks for your time.
