If I walk into a local walmart which oil is this? I'm guessing that its Castrol Syntec correct? I just purchased a 1994 Saab 900S with 57k miles and I think I will run this oil in it..

GC is only avalible at autozone and is the 0w-30.
You have to look on the back for "made in germany" and there is only a certin set of lot #'s that are the prefered green, elf approved type.

Here are the lot #'s on the bottom of the bottles so you can tell you are getting the green and no the gold gc: M02xxxxxxx, M03xxxxxx, M04xxxxx, and M0501xxxxx. Anything after that is the gold gc. Not that the gold is not good, just everyone seems to prefer the green.

for the M02 yo uhave to watch it. as there are bottles of the pre GC that has the M02 label but has a yellow band on it and says made in the USA.

jdavis,

Here's what to look for.

quote:

You want to check the batch code on the bottom of the bottle. Known good batch numbers for GC green are from M02xxxxxxx, M03xxxxxx, M04xxxxx, and M0501xxxxx. Early M02 are US made and have 0w30 labels that are black letters on a yellow background. Avoid those. On the good ones, 0w30 label should be red background with black letters. They should have "Made in Germany" on the back label. Batch numbers M0502xxxxx and later are Gold color and the jury is still out as to whether it is as good as the green. There are some post in this topic that has more specific batch numbers. Here's a link to what the bottle and oil looks like.

Happy Hunting....

Oh yeah.. Since you're in Maine, GC Green is supposed to be available at Walmart in Canada.
