With GC in a car during winter months and the car not started for about three months, will this oil provide sufficient protection?

I think a dino would be fine here.

Regardless of what oil ends up in there you should try start it once in while.

There were some unresolved posts on the hygroscopic nature of ester oils. IIRC, it came down on the side of the esters in motor oil are not of the hygroscopic type. I still would be a lil hesitant because of seal issues to store a car with PAO or ester base oils. That's me.

In a case like this, I would run a HD diesel engine oil with a high TBN. Better yet, Mercruiser or other marine engine oil that has additional additives to fight condensation and corrosion when left alone for long periods. If you do have to start the engine, (which I don't recommend unless it gets fully warm for 20 minutes or longer) the extra additives in the high priced marine oils will help protect from rust. These oils are generally dino oils with hefty add packs. They can be used for a short while after storage is over, but are not designed for stop and go type driving.

I left Mobil 1 in my 5.0L Ford for 22 months through 2 Illinois winters in an unheated garage. There were a couple of time when it sat for 3-4 months without being started. In 22 months it was only driven 2000 miles. When I did a UOA the TBN was still 8.5 and it looked pretty normal otherwise with the exception of *slightly* high iron.

I wouldn't worry about using GC for winter storage at all. That's what I've got in the Ford this year for the winter...
