I'm wondering if my mother's brand new 2005 Toyota Camry with the 2AZ-FE engine will benefit from GC? Her oil change is coming up soon...right now she has the Castrol GT-X 5w-30 with a fram filter...mileage is at 5,500...should I switch her up to GC @ 6,000 miles? Whats a good oil interval for GC on a 2az-fe that is primarily granny driven?

thanks for the prompt reply ... I hate going to my local toyota dealer becuz they seriously rip me off.

No Problem... I know what you mean.

Here are few links I found with a google search with "toyota oem oil filters". I don't know how good the businesses are since I've never used them. If that is a concern you could use the Better Business Bureau to check them out. http://www.bbb.org/

Oh yeah...what would be a good OCI for GC GOLD in the 2az-fe? I'm shooting for 7500 and up...if I do go that route...will I have to change my oil filter inbetween? Or will OEM handle up to 7500?

Really? Hmm...what would be a good choice for filters? When I did the first oil change like 2 months ago, I noticed the OEM filter looked nice and big...looked much better quality than the *** fram filter I replaced it with...but I didn't wanna get smashed by the dealership..plus walmart has both the oil and oil filter conveniently in one spot so I just went with the Fram..

Is OEM 2az-fe filter any good? If so, does anyone know an internet site to get them for cheaps? I'm planning on buying like a 10pack

From my reading of the above links, for the money the Purolator or Wix are good choices. Check the pricing on the OEM filter. Its price might not be too far out of line. Then again it might you never know.

BTW: I used to use Fram filters on my 93 Mazda pickup but not any more. It don't trust the cheap construction of the Fram filters. I'm currently using the Purolator Pure One but wouldn't hesitate at all using the Premium Plus.

audi_guy...thanks for the prompt reply....Do you know of a website that gives wholesale pricing on Toyota OEM filters? Or similiar pricing to OEM? I hate going to my local toyota dealer becuz they seriously rip me off...I remember last time I got a Gallon of Toyota Red coolant for like $25....then I go on my forums and read people get them for less than $20 all day every day

I was told that my mom's new 2006 Camry had mandated OCI's of 5000, per warranty requirement.

I couldn't agree more, about ditching the Fram filters. Hard to beat Purolator Pure One, Wix, or even the Wally World Super Techs (very solid canister).

Hmm...interesting...how would the dealership know if I'm pushing more than 5000 miles on the oil? Besides, I doubt warranty work for the camry would require opening the engine...most likely it would be some stupid crap like body panel fix, hood rattle, etc etc

they can ask for the paper work of the oil changes. but as long as I owned cars I never had them ask me for any proof. but also I never needed major engine work either.

IF you ever had that engine take a dump on you, within warranty, I'm sure if it was not serviced at the dealer, they are going to want to see proof, that it was changed somewhere per their requirements.

Highly unlikely that motor would give anything but a stellar amount of miles. But crapola happens... Always best to cover your ***.

what proof would I submit

Keep the receipts for the oil and oil filter. Document the maintenance log in the owner's manual with the date and milage of the change. Can also note the corresponding receipt numbers there as well. Do this with every oil change. This shows a documented pattern over time. Provide copies of the above in a warranty claim. That should do it.

Any legal eagles out there to chime in on this?

I'd say the OEM oil filter (or any high-quality oil filter) should be able to go 7,500 miles without an issue.
