The shutoff valve (screwed into the gas tank) for my 8 yr (or so) Airens 36" snow blower is leaking gas. Before use I unscrew it one or two turns and run the snow blower and when I am done its open about 6 turns and leaking. So I assume its loose and vibration is opening it more turns.

Is there an o-ring in there or some other packing or does the shutoff valve need to be replaced?

Yes, their are O rings in the assewmbly. If I recall, unscew the outer nut that the shaft goes thru and you should have access to the O rings. You may want to see if there is a kit for it. As one from the hardware store may not hold up well to gas with ethonal in it.

In order to fix this I will need to take apart the shutoff valve apart. I asked my wife if she would be willing to put her finger over the opening while drove to the parts store. I did not get an energetic YES.
