Actually, I believe they put the dipstick back on newer vehicles. The check hole does have the advantage of being able to drain out a little fluid if the unit gets overfilled. I like that.
 
As far as I know, GM is still using the dipstickless 4T45/4T40 on their new cars.

The lack of a dipstick keeps dipsticks from overfilling it with the wrong fluid.
 
Dark Jedi, the Saturn fluid that the dealer was talking about was for the Getrag manual transmission. There is a TSB for a rattle/vibration in the manual tranny and the Saturn fluid is supposedly thicker and reduces the vibration (which is caused by the engine trasferring vibration to the tranny at certain RPMs). The lack of a dipstick has its advantages and disadvantages. Fairly easy to check but you have to know the procedure.
