After spending some months reviewing many many posts, I just have to ask a few basic questions. First I appreciate the tremendous pool of Lubri-knowledge that is found here...it's awesome.....but.....

Since I am running M1 5w30 synth in my truck, and using the GM OLM system to determine my OCI's;

- I don't need the addition of Arx because of runnig PAO oil.

- I don't any additives to supplement oil to do any more than M1 delivers as the basic product.

- I don't need to mix any oils just run the plain M1 right out of the bottle.

- I can rely on GM's OLM to help me determine my OCI based on my driving habits and all the parameters reveiwed by the on board OLM.

I started out using the 3K OCI on motors that are 90% highway and the oil was pretty clean but I changed anyway.

Now I run synth and just let the OLM tell me...i.e. around 8K-9K OCI.

Am I over simplifying things and or missing a fundemental.

Since the OLM was designed to use Dino and be safe, I am just going through the extra expense and assurrance by using synth.....

Does anyone really see anything wrong with this very simple plan ???

Thanks for your counsel....

My $0.02...I think you're right-on with your line of thought. I might consider an AutoRX treatment every 50,000 miles or so if you really want to keep the insides of your engine clean, but other than that I think you'll be just fine.

I once thought that good synthetic oils like M1 would keep the engine completely deposit-free but learned from experience that it's not always true...wasn't true in my VW 1.8T engine. Granted that engine is an oil bruiser but never did oil change intervals longer than ~6.5K. Other engines with much longer OCIs abuse the oil just as much. A maintenance dose of Auto-RX loosened minor amounts soft deposits that were hidden from view previously. They showed up under the oil fill cap and on the metal visible inside the oil fill hole. Engine had ~65K miles on it when I started the Auto-RX maintenance doses. This isn't necessary, but it is beneficial since the cleaner the engine, the better.
It's the [censored] from combustion that ends up in the oil that forms these deposits I'm referring to, not breakdown of the basestocks...that's why PAO oils don't negate the benefit of using a litle bit of Auto-RX along with your oil. Dispersants do what they can to keep these deposits from forming but apparently they don't FULLY cut it.

Same plan I'm using, Tony.
I'm switching to M-1 EP next month(winter prep) but
the OLM is the guide any way. Ends up being twice a year
OC. I can live with that.
