Fuel Filter Cut-Open. Mahle KL66 (BMW)

Just changed the Mahle KL66 fuel filter on my 1996 BMW 318ti. Here's the pictures of it cut open.

Usage:
• 52,138 miles
• 4 years, 1 Month

The filter housing measures 10.1" (255mm) Long and 2.2" (55mm) in Diameter. The filter media measures 57" (!!!) long streched by 9.25" wide.

Yes, it's a BIG filter.

Almost 50" long just laying.

Both the Mahle and Mann versions are about $17 online. The replacement was a Mann from Amazon.com for just under $23 with shipping.

My local dealer sell the exact same filter in a BMW box with a BMW stamp on the filter for $40.

the filter on my BMW 525i is larger diameter, yet shorter. I suspect it has about the same size media area.
