I have been told by one person that my 85 ford150 6cyl will run better on 85 oct so good so far another person at a parts house who opinion i value said he is using "startron" and has increased his economy by 3-4 mpg i have used different additives over the years (not in this case (f150) so has anyone used this product thanks with any help bettysthe truk

85 Octane is the recommended fuel for many vehicles when driving in places like Denver where you are at a very high altitude and I don't think that is the case where you live.

As far as additives go I really don't think that you will see any discernible difference in mileage.

My understanding is that "octane demand" actually isn't that high with many engines unless you're pushing it for performance. Most engines would probably be adequate on 85 octane as long as all you did was take a minute to get up to freeway speeds and cruise for hours with little acceleration/deceleration.

Now ask the engine to perform hard, and it's going to start knocking.

My question is,what does Startron(made by StarBrite, famous for marine waxes) have in it thats not in any other fuel treatments?

No clues from the MSDS. Just says under 5% by volume of "proprietary organic compounds". I'd guess just another PEA detergent bought from a large chemical company like BASF or Huntsman.

Keeping that engine in proper tune will do more than any additive will. That said, a good pour in product can help clean deposits, gum varnish etc,.What it wont fix are things like low compression, leaky intake gaskets or a carb that needs a rebuild.

You have a great positive though, that engine.

I've been tempted to use startron in my 92 F-150, same engine.I just debated with myself for about five minutes before putting it back on the shelf.

it is an enzyme treatment, mainly used to combat the effects of ethanol in the gas. I've used it in the Accord---throttle response was better, MPG a little better---but definately not worth the 7 bucks a bottle
