We know that different oils have different friction modifiers to be more slippery or less slipery, depending on their intended use.

Does anyone know of a good reference on what, how and how much for different friction coeficients?

How hard would it be to make some kind of a test rig?

FM do appear to make a difference as far as fuel economy. It's finding it's way into HDEO's even in an effort for increased savings.

Just how it works,

Is it on a molecular level during flow? Is it due to surface interaction at lower temperatures than things like ZDDP would have some effect, with the surfaces that are being lubricated?

Good topic.
