Can these 2 filters be interchanged if there is clearance on my 01 Mercury sable? It looks the same but is a little longer which should give more filter media I think.

Seeing how the Sable is basically a Taurus, wouldn't it be spec'd for the 3600? (FL400s) If so, the threads are different. The XG2 is the 820s equivalent.

The 3.0L Duratec engine (24v DOHC) uses the FL820 filter. The 3.0L Vulcan (12v OHV) uses the FL400 filter. Totally differnt filter sizes and threads. They will NOT interechange. And neither is like the FL500 either; it is unique in some of it's characteristics such as BP, etc. Your Sable and Panther will require the XG2 or equivilant.
