curious about fram air filters, now i used fram a couple years ago pretty exclusivly, i have since been using wix, but i can get a fram tough gaurd for about the same price as a wix, now are these filters any better, or what. thanks for the help.

There seems to be much less criticism with the Fram air filters than with the Fram oil filters. I've used their air filters in the past. They seem to be well constructed and performed well.

Wix and Fram both make good fitting air filters. Frams fit better than most and fit is very important. If a filter doesn't fit and seal right, it doesn't matter how well it filters. I will use Fram air filters but not their oil filters.

I have also never seen a defective new Fram air filter like I have a defective new Fram oil filter.

There's not that much controversy about Fram air filters - most seem to agree they work well, and are good value. I use them.

Its the OIL FILTERS that cause all the fuss...

Since you can actually see everything about the construction of an air filter, Fram isn't going to make them as cheap as the guts of their oil filters, which you can't see.

When the frame of the Fram air filters starts being made of cardboard, and they have half the pleats of anyone else, then it's time to jump ship.

For now though, their air filters are fine.

Looking at a Fram air filter compared to Purolator, the Fram seems to be better built.

I tend to go with Fram or Wix as both appear to be better built than other choices such as Purolator.

i would never put any fram product on any vehicle. every aspect of their products range from marginally functional to downright shoddy.

205K miles on my 83 305 Silverado which is still my Daily Driver and it's been nothing but Fram Air and Oil filters since day 1,i'll bet you also ride the same bandwagon that Pennz is all wax.

no, pennzoil is great oil. ***?!

and i don't like FRAM based on the NUMEROUS horror stories I've read, plus the cheap materials they use in their oil filters, especially the paper endcaps. they just aren't quality IMHO. if you want to use them, fine, i hope you never have an engine failure related to them.

I pulled a Fram oil filter with part of the media hanging out from my old Escort, but I'll still use their air filters without reservation. Of course, the damaged oil filter had been in service for several years before I felt like replacing it, so I dunno if I can really blame Fram for shoddy products.
