Fram Sure Grip

Do any other readily available filters besides Fram and Advance Auto have the rough grippy surface? I just today installed a TG2 on my Mustang for the simple reason the sure grip makes the job much easier. So far so good, no start up noise and quick oil pressure from a cold sart.

If you like the Advance Total Grip, then just stay with it. A good filter at an excellent price (especially so at the current 'buy one get one free' price).

I use the Advance filter, but won't touch any Fr*m.

They're pretty much the only two filters that I know of with the grippy surface.

I did an OC on my Dakota last week and it was my first time using the AAP Totalgrip. It sure did make the job easier to get the filter tightened down on the engine block, and it performs just the same as the Purolator at less than half the price right now because of the BOGO deal. I wondered after reading your post how well either some spray-can undercoating or painting a non-skid coating product on the outside of other filters might work. Maybe others here might have more input on that. I think it might not hold up to the heat of the filter when the engine is running. But as far as I know the Fram and the AAP are the only ones with the grippy surface.

I don't know of any readily available brand, other than the two mentioned, with a good "grippy" surface. There are lots of brands with the ends formed for filter cups, but who would want to get out a wrench when your hand and grippy paint will suffice?

At the current, unrestricted limit, BOGO sale at AAP for their house brand, why bother with anything else? They are a rebranded Purolator, with (stated apparently by those who disect them) a few less pleats. I wouldn't push the AAP filter to a 10k mile filter change, but by gosh, for a 5k mile filter interval at $1.44, just how can you go wrong?
