I don't know of any readily available brand, other than the two mentioned, with a good "grippy" surface. There are lots of brands with the ends formed for filter cups, but who would want to get out a wrench when your hand and grippy paint will suffice?
At the current, unrestricted limit, BOGO sale at AAP for their house brand, why bother with anything else? They are a rebranded Purolator, with (stated apparently by those who disect them) a few less pleats. I wouldn't push the AAP filter to a 10k mile filter change, but by gosh, for a 5k mile filter interval at $1.44, just how can you go wrong?
