Found in a Dead Tree

My brother's friend was clearing out some dead trees in Massachusetts and found this mummified creature in a stump.

At first Id say some kind of dog, but those teeth are huge for the size of it.

Maybe that's mummification for you?

Where in the stump was it? How was it in there?

The tooth structure and type behind the big fangs/canine incisor teeth dont match up well to most of these, IMO.
 
I think based upon the lower jaw structure at the pivot point to the head, you would be right.

Havent looked at any large cat skulls though.
