Was helping a member find an oil filter that wouldn't hit the steering rod on a mower that wasn't ridiculously overpriced beyond reason. Going below the standard 3.5" of a 3614 becomes a real pain. Stumbled into this gem by chance. I usually use a 4967 on mine even though the gasket slightly blocks the unfiltered oil port but without ill effect. But I'll be buying two, get them for any tight fitment mowers. Shipped and sold directly by amazon so maybe won't disappear after a while?

I'd like to see that cut open. I have to think there's very little media in that thing.
There are even worse ones out there. The shortest I found in my filter hunting was a 2.05" high filter. I bet there's barely an inch of filter media height in it if it does have metal caps, with fiber caps probably 1-3/8". One instance where I'd want it to have fiber caps more than metal ones. Those metal caps take up a lot in such a short filter.

A small engine like what that filter is speced for doesn't have to be very big. The key is how much media area they packed into the available space. If it's done right, it's still plenty for an application like a small engine. The cartridge oil filter on my KLX300 is pretty small, probably less media area than those small filters linked on Amazon.

Thanks, not much needed for a small engine motor so should work well in the application & most are changed before their toast anyways. Manuals usually call for no more than 50-100 hours on oil filter. I will say from my experience small engines do produce more metals than an automotive engine. Probably wise to mention keep it around 50-75 hours to be on the safe side if it has an hour meter. If not they're cheap to buy & install. Nice work.

Looks like this Oil Filter that JavierH19 Linked has a Micron Rating of 28
It would be nice to know the Percentage, I do not think it is 99%, I am sure someone will chime in soon.

These small Oil Filters that are needed on the Kohler 7000 Series Engine for the Cub Cadet Riding Mower with the Steering Rod near the Oil Filter a quite expensive.

The AC Delco PF2210 is $10.09
The Fram 8172 is now $17.44
The Fram 8170 is now $13.52

The best Oil Filter I have found is the Amsoil EA15K53 with a list price of $19.30

The Fram 4967 is an interesting Oil Filter that only costs $4.14, but the ID and OD Gasket Size are a bit smaller. The length is fine at 2.922 inches. I went out today with a ruler and turned the wheel back and forth on my Cub Cadet XT1 that I now have an ACDelco PF2210. If you turn the wheel all the way to the right the rod can catch an oil filter like the Fram XG3614 since it is 3.430 inches long.

I used this same SE-1 filter for 50 hours on my 2012 Snapper 24 hp tractor, and it didn't explode. Then I went back to a longer filter.

You can get an Amsoil EA15K53 as a preferred customer for 11.99 on their website and they'll ship for free with orders over $100. It comes in at 2.7" tall as I recall. From what I can see, it's equivalent to the Kohler Pro Extended Life filter with a better synthetic filter media than K&N or Mobil 1 which will generally run you $5 to $6 more at O'Reilly, Advance or Auto Zone.
