I repaired the limit switches on a Chamberlain GDO for a customer and noticed that the plastic gears (worm) were dry and generating a lot of plastic shavings. The only grease I had with me was the XG3 which is a high temp silicone brake grease, somewhat thick. I applied the grease.

Figured applying the grease, even though thick, was better than letting the gears run dry.

Not sure about your model, but some screw drive use a graphite carrier. Best to check exactly what you have and what (if anything) should be used.

Chamberlain supplies Lubriplate Aero grease with replacement gears, so that is what should be used.

In my situation, all I had was the XG3, so my choice was between letting the gears run dry or apply the XG3. I opted for the XG3.
