I'm wanting to find a copy of this spec....contacting Ford support was useless...I finally got to their MSDS people who sent me a MSDS for Motorcraft 5W-30 or something like that...not the actual spec. itself.

Anyone have an inside way of getting this info? It says in the manual an oil has to have the API symbol and meet this spec....yet no info on the spec. is given.

Thanks either way!

unDummy- Thanks for the link! ...but I'd found that too...all that lists is that the oil must be licensed to diplay the API certification mark (not even which grade, just the mark), and also "Shall meet all the requirements of "The ILSAC GF-3 Minimum Performance Standard For
Passenger Car Engine Oils".

If that's the whole WSS-M2C205-A spec, then any oil that meets GF-3 and has an API logo on it meets WSS-M2C205-A...that's not to bad...but I was thinking there'd by more to WSS-M2C205-A than that?

wavinwayne- Just the spec. My manual calls for an 5W-30 oil that meets Ford's WSS-M2C205-A spec. and that also has the API logo.

Only problem is that finding a copy of the actual spec. is proving to be slightly difficult.

Did get an e-mail back from Mobil thought...Mobil-1 Extended Performance doesn't meet GF-3 or GF-4....so it's probable that I'm voiding my warranty anyways...

Chuck - In the link provided by Undummy, Ford states that WSS-M2C205-A is the performance tests of GF-3 and the license requirements of API which specify certain ASTM tests that the oil must pass.

So WSS-M2C205-A, in itself, is just a number that refers to the actual GF-3 & API specs.

The line of M1 EP motor oils probably exceeds the performance of regular GF-3 M1 in all categories except for ZDDP levels & the Sequence VIB fuel efficiency test.

Also as a note, as many of the members here with legal backgrounds have explained, your warranty is not voided by the use of Amsoil or M1 motor oil.

Blue99- That's not Ford stating that though...that's ILMA sending that to Ford. I'm looking for a document from Ford that states what the spec. is.

I'm sure Mobil-1 EP oils exceed any wear requirements for WSS-M2C205-A...the problem is that if that spec. says no more than some percentage of P by weight lets say...and Mobil-1 EP exceeds that, then Ford could say I used an oil that voided my warranty. It's plain in the manual: 5W-30 that meets WSS-M2C205-A and is API logo'd. Mobil-1 5W-30 EP meets two of these 3 requirments definitely...it's the WSS-M2C205-A spec. that to me is unknown.

I don't know how my warranty could not be voided, or at invalidated while I'm running M1 EP, if one of the spec.'s in WSS-M2C205-A is GF-3 and Mobil-1 EP does not meet that.

tenderloin- That is exactly what I'm looking for! They don't happen to have a copy for 2003 though do they?

My apologies to unDummy and Blue99! After going back and re-re-re-reading the link that unDummy posted, that is the document that list the Ford spec. for WSS-M2C205-A.

Now what I've got to do is find a copy of "The ILSAC GF-3 Minimum Performance Standard For
Passenger Car Engine Oils". If M1 5W-30 EP meets the minimum performance standards...then I think it could be safely said that M1 5W-30 EP meets the Ford WSS-M2C205-A spec.

Again, my apologies for not reading better!

chucky2,
I apologize if I seem like an *** for asking this, but why not just use Motorcraft oil & be done with it? That way, you'll know for sure that it meets the proper Ford spec. Am I missing something?

No problems wavinwayne, I'm an *ss for making a big deal out of nothing anyways!

At some point I may use some Motorcraft or other dino or blend...right now I'm just interested in getting some trending going and see how synthetics play out in this engine.

I already sent in a sample of my first 5,000 mile run of M1 5W-30 EP...it'll be interesting to see how it compares to regular M1 5W-30. The current fill I'm running, and that I'll put 5,000 miles on, is also M1 5W-30 EP...so with two samples in a row, I may be looking at using something else...been using Mobil-1 5W-30 xx for a while now...so I'm looking to try something different.

Maybe some German Castrol...maybe some Redline...so many choices...

...yes, I have a diesease!
