Hmmm…. I was under the impression that the Tesla V3 Supercharger and EA’s 350kw charger cables were already liquid cooled. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just wait until one of those batteries blows while being charged, or the special cable develops a leak - can we say HAZMAT situation loud enough?
It’s likely an alcohol based coolant, like what is used in computer heat pipes as they mentioned it being very similar to the cooling used for graphics cards. It evaporates almost instantly and there is a tiny amount, even in giant vapor chamber coolers.
 
And if charging at home, assuming you want full speed charging, would you need 400 amp or 600 amp service?
It's an option but can't see the need for that. Sounds like bad planning if you need to suddenly charge your car. Either you forgot to charge it or forgot to stop at the charging station. It would be like running out of gasoline at home.
 
Where are the EV batteries that can do low to full charge in 5 min?
The Tesla 4680 can take a very high current charge without overheating. It's one of the "secrets" of that design. I am not saying it can go from empty to full in 5 minutes. As it's just like every other lithium battery, the charging rate is fastest at a relatively low state of charge and slows to a trickle near full.

However, it is "theoretically" possible to have something like a 115Kwh 4680 battery pack in a normal vehicle and get significant range in 5 minutes. It will take something more than the upcoming 300,000 (or even 350,000) watt charging stations. Somewhere around the 350Kw range is where we get 100 miles range in 5 min.
 
Reading the whole article it says they are working in parallel to make batteries that can charge faster. Also it being patented. So they aren't spending all that research money at Purdue just to make a new cable for fun.
 
Why is this now about a homeowner? Homeowners get a 14 gauge charging cable to plug their EV into a 120 volt wall outlet when they buy an EV. The homeowner can upgrade the wall charger how they please, but usually level 2 is the max.
 
More like as EVs become more widespread, folks will expect same fill times as they have become accustomed to with conventional fuels.

To expect otherwise is, well, unrealistic.
That's not how it works.
I spend far less time fueling the Model 3 (virtually zero) than the ICE vehicles. Plug in at home and start every day with a full tank. Not to mention solar panels...
Compare that to finding the station with the cheapest gas, going in, filling and going home. Freakin' $5 per gallon!

Not even close. Once you get used to the EV fueling, gas stations are a pain. An expensive pain.
