Finally after 5 visits to the Ford dealer, in which they said "we can't find anything wrong

", my wife's 2002 Ford Focus Transmission went while on the highway. Car has 39,000 miles on it. Wouldn't go above 45 mph, then 25 mph. It adjusted itself and was fine for about 5 minutes, then it happend again. Trans. was POS from the beginning. Now they have to fix it.

Sounds like the dealers in your area aren't able to fix much. Well, at least the Ford and Honda dealers around you...

Hope they fix it for ZERO out of your pocket, save any warranty deductible.

I hope you originally reported the problem while under warranty. I was a few 1000 miles out of warranty on a 91 Taurus w/the infamous trans problem. Ford wouldn't cover it. I've never bought Ford since and I'm a Ford fan. Sad! It's been 10 years and I still may never buy Ford again. They ran me around and treated me like dirt.

This is a prime reason why, "the ford v-10 motor locked up", should have never been locked! I like this site and all, but I do get irritated since valuable information in this thread is not seen. Oh well!

It really doesn't surprise me. Ford has pretty decent manual trannys, but they still can't seem to build a good automatic to save their a$$, which is exactly the opposite situation at GM.

As mentioned..Some Ford auto trannies are junk. That's why they came out with the "Improved" Mercon V ..to gen 'em though Warranty period. (As I have mentioned before

)

Ford pulled that trick a number of years ago when they had a problem with cam shaft lubrication..They came out with a "Recomended" Oil.

I smell a class action suit one of these days for the tranny issues.

your topic ford focus-dead..reminds me of the phrase "F.O.R.D = found on the road dead" lol
but seriously, I hope ford covers the transmission replacement. my 94 ford ranger auto transmission was doing the same symptoms you have had with your focus. unfortunately, the truck was totalled in an accident before the transmission failed.

Yep, replaced three tranny's in a 2000 taurus within 30k miles. And people wonder why Ford get's trash talked and why they can't keep up with the quality of Yota and Honda.

OT: Met a salesman the other day driving a 2003 Toyota Camry. He asked me how I liked my Tacoma. Told him I would never own anything but Yota. He said his Camry was a piece of crap, had to replace the transmission about a month ago. He said "Them da*n Toyotas are only good for about 80k miles. Give me a Ford Crown Vic". I said: "Hmm, how many miles you got on your Camry?" His reply: "About 190k miles". I just laughed. They're only good for 80k, had to replace tranny a MONTH ago? Ok.

LOL!! he drove 190k miles on a 03 toyota camry..the tranny fails and it's junk??? 190k in two years! I bet he never changed the transmission fluid! 190k on oem fluid is pretty impressive if you ask me!

It's been noted several times. Havn't heard back yet from them. Ford Trans. suck. I will NEVER buy an automatic. Don't like them.

An easy driven manual tranny will go 1,000,000,000,000,000 miles before needing overhaul, same with the clutch. You can go 300K on an original clutch with ease if you drive it easy, never ride the clutch, shift to neutral and keep foot off the clutch while idling/waiting for lights etc.

While waiting for a meeting to start someone asked about my truck, and when mentioned most people were surprised that not only did I have a manual tranny, I wanted one. They also couldn't believe that over half of Dodge diesels are sold with manuals. A couple of F250 owners in the room said that they'd get a manual on their next trucks as they'd had a lot of problems with their autos.

Hmmm sounds more like a computer problem to me. We have two focus auto's in the family, my sisters with 40k and grandparents with 80k. If it can hold up to their driving the transmission must be some what decent. Dumb question but have you changed the transmission fluid lately, the full change?? My 98 escort had some weird shifting issues and I did a transmission pan drop only 15k before, the fluid was absolutely black. I love to get into a debate over which name brand is better, but the fact of the matter is that if 5 people bought each manufactors vehicles brand new off the sales room floor, i'd bet at least one of each would have some sort of problem. All it takes is a speck of dust or a mold not tooled to exact measurements to cause problems. Every companies had a cover up, some just aren't good at doing that.
