Ford ESE-M97B44-A is basically conventional green?

I need to do a drain and fill on a 98 Contour with the 2.5 V6 and the manual states the spec in the subject. It is basically green, correct? I have read so many conflicting things about what can be used. Am I limited to conventional green or what can I use? I am not in a position to pay for a flush, and just want to do a drain and fill. Any input would be appreciated. The same situation applied to my 94 F-150 with the 5.0. I want to do a drain and fill on it too. Again, thanks in advance for any input.

Yes green in your 98. You can use G05 but you have to flush it really well. Also an ELC can be used

Yes, ESE-M97B44-A is regular green antifreeze. My Explorer has the same spec and I use Napa regular antifreeze.

Ford recommends no G-05 before '99. Shame, because I would love to run it in my old '89 7.3!

Extended life coolant, like Caterpillar EC-1. They have a very long life, from 300k to 1 million miles or 3-8 years depending on brand.

Honestly, I like to keep it simple and if I were in your shoes I would just run the green, it has obviously worked for the past 14 years.
