Ford-ditches-new-EV

"Wait till the big boys get in!"
Tesla is the only company, with the possible exception of BMW, that makes a profit on EVs.
Oh yeah. Tesla has fallen to 48.7 percent market share as of this year. Three years ago they were 86 percent market share. Apparently some companies are making a dent in their sales.

IMO, Ford has an uphill battle in the EV world because trucks are their bread and butter. At this point in time, I struggle to see the viability of an electric truck from any maker.

I give them credit for breaking out their EV financials; I'm not sure anyone else does so. Additionally, I give CEO Farley and Co. credit for making the tough decisions by changing business direction based on results and their forecast. CEO Barra gaslights GM EV results in direct opposition to reality.

They have had sales success with the Bolt, but as of April of this year GM has not yet turned a profit on its electric models, including the Bolt. GM hopes to make a profit on their EV business in 2025, dependent on sales volume.

Let’s just say the “influencers” in this were a notch or two above YT

Uhh really? If you did any digging GM is making a profit on their electric vehicles. Face it Tesla owners will put up with alot more than most customers will. From reading Tesla seems to be one of the few manufacturers that have unsold vehicles piling up on extra lots. They have a ton of vehicles sitting in an abandoned mall parking lot acting as an overflow lot. If Tesla is so smart as you claim why can't they figure out their production numbers to keep manufacturing and sales in line? Just asking.
GM doenst split out their profit to say whether they make any money or not.
Of the big 3 only ford has the balls to do that.

Tesla still can't get their fit and finish right, plus they treat alot of customers who aren't influencers like dirt. If it wasn't for the cult like following they'd be gone. I worked for an independent dealership that purchased a 6 month old Model x back right after they came out. The door latch failed so it wouldn't go into drive ( goofy Tesla issues). Not sure now but Tesla said they'll tow free of charge to the closest service center. They used every excuse in the book to get out of paying.

Tesla has their problems I don't excuse them from, but they build a better electric car than Ford does and they make money selling them.

It was never a reasonable expectation for the big 3 to catch Telsa and make money on these cars in any reasonable amount of time, that was just fantasy puked out by guys like Bob Lutz.

Truth be told, Tesla's truck with half a battery "ain't" cheap either. Ask Tesla to double the battery size and put an SUV body on the Cyber Truck and I'd fully expect $150K++ costs also.

None of this is making any sense what so ever.

The model 3 and Y carry the company.

They totally blew it with that thing. I'd rather have a Rivian, or a Silverado than that.
The silverado is the only Ev truck with anything approaching a usable towing range.

Leave it to a guy that has never once in his life used a truck to design something like that.

Article clearly states that Ford is still intending to produce lower priced EV's when they probably should be producing lower priced ICE vehicles.
That would be smart, affordable small to mid sized EVs, doing it along with trying to up the quality of their ICE vehicles. But just one look at the stock price tells the story, it appears Ford isn't doing too many smart things or turning out quality vehicles anymore.

Interesting how folks judge Ford safely within the walls of the BITOG thought prison - go somewhere else with a 360° perspective …
I’m not a Ford fan - but meet you there …

Anecdotally I see a Lightning once in a blue moon, and the sad EV thing they call a Mustang even less. Not surprised.
My neighbor across the street has a Lightening. He uses it for around town use and likes it. I see the ep/u daily and not seeing one isn't missing anything special.

Kia's 3-Row EV SUV starts in the low $50's.
3 rows of what? Walmart bags? - getting tired of most 3 row claims in the USA or otherwise … Just signed a contract at work to get out of this mindset and get two vehicles for 6 people
Tired of those who feather their caps on crap like this …

In April, GM's CFO said that the company continues to lose money on their electric cars. They go on to say that the EV project shows promising signs, and they expect to be making money on them as early as the end of this year.
