72' mustang 351c, I changed out my first roll after about 20 hours of run time, I hooked it up to the TV pressure test port and the return is to the dipstick tube, needle valve is on the inlet, it took a lot of fiddling with adjustments to end up at 3/4 of a quart per minute at cruise rpm, this is the tricky part because oil pressure can be anywhere from 0 to 90 psi and hot atf flows like water

, I used a shim on the carb end of the tv cable to replicate cruise conditions of 30-40 psi.

At filter change, my old dented up and modified dipstick tube started leaking again at the o ring to case interface, this is a common thing with these transmissions, replaced with an Allstar Performance locking dipstick #69130, nice piece with good fitment. The late Gary Allan would always suggest running atf bypass filters by bridging the in and out cooling lines, this uses the pressure drop of the cooler to compel flow through the filter, a few psi differential is all that is needed, well thanks Gary, it does indeed work and yes it's a 'no brainer!' like you said, the bypass has flow and the majority of flow still runs through the cooler circuit, just like you said.

Yes, very nice, I did the same with my Ford 5R110 and it works great. Works on the small difference in pressure from the pressure line to the cooler and the return to the trans.:)

Calling @A310 for the rocking’ bypass comments!

Great work… but can we ask why you put the Frantz on the transmission & not on the engine oil?
I do :), I am changing the tp on it tomorrow as the car is going for it's winter sleep. I wasn't anticipating changing the trans filter this soon, but the dipstick tube leak got me turning wrenchs on it.
