A buddy gave me a lift in his Bronco with a 2.3 Ecoboost. It had plenty of acceleration but the engine sound with the hood up was every “ rattly” from the head. Does anyone agree that they seem to made a lot of noice. What about the ones in the Mustangs? Thanks.

I think a lot of these noises are form the direct injection from what I was told. Very high pressure injectors.

I have a 23 Mustang with the 2.3. It is not a quiet engine and makes a fair bit of top end noise in particular during the first few minutes of running. If you put the car in Sport Plus mode it changes the audible tone, but they must have changed it because it sounds okay and is actually kinda fun if you're in the mood.

My son has a 21 Explorer with the 2.3 at 100k and it sounds way quieter than mine in the Mustang, probably intentional on Ford's part.

Not the engine, but when the gas tank is completely full you can hear the high pressure fuel pump pulsing. I've heard that in other Fords though.

I have a 2.3l in the Explorer and it was never a quiet engine when you are up close. The loud tapping sound is the fuel system from my research. You can't hear anything inside the cabin, and that's really what matters.

21 explorer with the 2.3. The engine tone is one of the few minor things we don't like in this setup. Of course this replaced a V8 explorer, so the difference is a bit noticeable in engine tone.
