FOCKE WULF 190 vs SPITFIRE

As a child, the FOCKE WULF 190 was my favorite WWII airplane. The SPITFIRE was my 2nd favorite.

FW-190 only goes up in my opinion the more I Iearn. Now my favorite.

I got to see one fly in 2013 at FHC's "Russia Day" that year. They had it chase an IL-2 around the field. ;)

My favorite is still the razor back Mustang even before logging 2.2 hours in mind altering flight time...

Owners of prized War Birds are not interested in pushing the envelope in a real dog fight but Flight Sim or 1G pilots do every day...

"When the Fw190 first appeared in the skies over Europe it caught the allies so off guard they could scarcely believe it. In the struggle for technical supremacy the Luftwaffe once more regained the edge in fighter capability particularly at low to medium altitudes."

All in all whether you kill or not it chiefly depends on the pilot's skill level and aggression...

I waver between:

BF-109
P-47

Lean towards P-47
I Googled which WWII plane had the most kills and found this;

German ME-109

The German ME-109 had the most kills. First they fought over mostly Germany and German held land, so if they were shot down they walked back to safety. Some pilots had 350+ kills, they were in the war from day one. ;) (y)

They also made over 30K of them. The most numerous of any fighter in the war. It was interesting seeing the chess match between it and the Spitfire with ever evolving editions. But the "Butcher Bird" (FW-190) was another kind of beast.

Before my dad got sole parental custody of me at age 7, my mother (100% German) would only allow me to play with German military toys (planes, tanks, soldiers, etc.).

In the 50s radio show interviewed a renowned world war ace. The announcer said this individual was responsible for many downed planes and it was a pleasure to have him on the show. So he asked the pilot who was a country boy with a speech impediment if he had any harrowing encounters? What's harrowing? Asked the guest. The announcer said scary or intimidating. Pilot replied you dam right!
The announcer said please watch your language sir this is a family aired station. With that in mind please continue. The pilot said One early morning I was flying at low elevation and I look to the right and l saw 4 fokkers and on the left there was six fokkers. The announcer interrupted and said for the benefit of the audience a fokker is a German plane. The pilot piped up and said you dam right these fokkers was Messerschmitts!!

They didn't just fly over Germany. The Me109 was the primary fighter in Operation Barbarossa and downed pilots often had to undergo harrowing rescues...

Jagdgeschwader 52 (JG 52) was an airwing that Eric Hartmann was in and used them exclusively until the end of the war, the vast majority of sorties were over the Soviet Union...

For those interested in the topic of WWII aviation the book The Secret Horsepower Race by Callum E. Douglas is worth getting.
It's incredible, and not mentioned in other history texts, how hampered the Germans were by lack of materials to make the alloys needed for high performance engines and by access to a source of oil for fuel.
They also suffered from some poor planning with regards to man-power (sending a large number of engineers and skilled labourers to fight in Russia).

They did pioneer some technologies we still consider "new" in automotive engines like direct fuel injection.
