Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice. My flex pipe broke near the muffler inlet on my 2018 2.7 ecoboost after 65k miles. "Built Ford Tough" eh.

Curious how I can repair this. Ford sells the flex pipe integrated with the muffler for ~$425. Unfortunately I've only got ~2'' to work with before I hit the muffler. The pipe in that 2'' starts at 2.75'', necks briefly down to 2.5'' and then goes back to 2.75'' before hitting the muffler (see photo). About 18'' fore of the picture (and fore of a hanger) I have about 2' of straight pipe that could house a new section of flex pipe.

For repair, any better idea than a new section of flex pipe fore of the current location, and then try to put a straight 2.75'' pipe over the little 2'' of exposed pipe I have before the muffler? I was thinking about filling up the necked down 2.5'' section high temp expoxy to fill the void.

If the inlet pipe has corroded through, the flex pipe is close behind. Your best bet is to take it to an independent muffler shop, preferably one that does custom pipework. They can cut out the flex pipe and weld in a replacement for a lot less than $425. I had a flex pipe replaced by my local independent muffler shop on a Honda Odyssey for $170 this past January.

Rockauto has a Walker that copies the OE design for $121.

Your options are a generic muffler plus generic flexpipe, aftermarket parts, or OE part. I don't think the muffler inlet can be saved.

Muffler pipe looks pretty crusty, I'd replace the muffler and flex pipe. As others have stated, take it to a muffler shop where they can probably fix you up for around $250 or a little more for a stainless muffler is worthwhile considering existing rust.

A muffler shop would probably just cut it off and weld on a new flex pipe

If you can do that yourself, Amazon has 304 flex pipes.

Also, there's Borla

Just had my pipe repaired by a local muffler shop by me. Cut out the old, and welded a new section in its place. 30 minutes and $100 cash money later, I was on my way.
