The Firestone is now the top rated standard all season touring tire on Tirerack. The tread pattern looks very aggressive for snowy conditions. I'd probably take it over the Cooper IF winter driving conditions are a concern.

Given the current discount of $1 over cost at Firestone stores on Firestone tires, I'd probably try that Precision Touring. Great views on Tire Rack mean that it's got to have SOME level of competence. Tread pattern shows a lot of siping, too. Looks like a decent all-season tire.

The cs4 is awful I had the worst experience ever with them. I had a set of four they wouldn't mount correctly would cause severe vibrations while running. They tried several sets they all did the same thing. To make it worse I emailed cooper 3 times never heard back!!! Ill never buy cooper again.

We only have 1000 miles on our CS4's but I'm happy with every aspect of the tire. Replaced some Firestone FR710's, which were a decent tire. Problem with them (and a lot of BridgeStone/Firestones) are that the grooving is not the full depth of the tread and so the snow performance really deteriorates before it needs to (though I can see how the new handling performance might be improved).

So price being the same that's what I would choose, though to be fair I have not driven that exact FireStone tire.

The websites for Expert Tire and Firestone Auto Care don't list the Precision Touring in the sizes for my vehicles, nor does a google search turn up a link for the Precision Touring on either site. They may be able to order them, but I don't see them on the site, so I have no idea what their prices may be.

That's strange that they don't have that tire on there.

I had the CS4's on my Equinox. Quiet and nice handling tire. I have hear there are questionable build issues with the tires (i.e. consumer complains about vibrations etc.) but I was not one of them and loved the tires. Cooper is a good brand at a reasonable price. Never had any issues with them

Another good review here for the CS4s - put the T rated on my parent's Cavalier right before winter and they have been very pleased, particularly with the snow traction thus far.

Would be interested to hear the review if you go with the Firestone's. Given the price and reviews on TR I've been thinking about these for the next set for our Saturn and/or Cruze.

How many times did you pick up a phone and try to call Cooper?

I found their Customer Service phone number in less than 15 seconds.

Consumer Relations: 1-800-854-6288.

Honestly, no company really wants to have people who are as unhappy as you are.

It's strange all right. See: http://is.gd/ezbtQd

As I wrote in that thread: The well-reviewed tire called Precision Touring at TR is essentially the same as the tire called Affinity Touring sold at Firestone retail shops. Meantime, the Affinity Touring listed at TR---with middling reviews at best---is _not_ the same tire as either of the above.

This explains it better: http://is.gd/8oZ7Zd

Well, the tread on the Precision Touring and Affinity (Firestone store version) are not identical. They're pretty similar, but not exactly the same. The shoulders look the same, but the three center ribs have some differences.

How much difference would the tread pattern differences make? That I don't know. The UTOG ratings are the same.

You're right that the Tire Rack's Affinity and the Firestone store's Affinity are very different.

My Taurus came with those Firestone Affinity from the factory. Those were ... horrible in about every imagineable way.

They did last 35K (50K on the car). That was the most I ever got out of a set of tires!

Even tires with the same tread design can be different between OE and non OE. I bought Bridgestone Insignia SE200 for the Taurus. Ratings for the OE tire were horrible. Ratings for the retail version were great; my retail version performed excellent.

I had a set of CS4s on my van and they were excellent - had 70,000 on 'em when I put on a set of Hankook Optimo H727s. They have been every bit as good as the Coopers and are quieter as well. Thought about the Firestones, but got a better deal on the Optimos.

I recommend either the Coopers or Hankooks.

I actually have Hankook on my car now and love them. The traction on the CS4's were better than what I have on the Hankooks but the AWD has helped.

I have Hankook 727's on my Elantra and I really like them....I only have about 5K on them so I can't comment on their long term grade but so far so good. I run snows on all my cars so I can't comment on the 727's snow potential...

I'm leaning towards the Firestone's because many have talked about an MPG hit with the Coopers...
