The problem with all these system management schemes is, besides emergencies, the phase lag in various parts of the feedback loops. Some are longer than any political systems can sustain power, and many are longer than many people can maintain attention. There will always be market crashes, mass hysteria, and other hiccups, no matter what political system is in place. The question is: Are we able to adapt to emergencies without losing the whole boat.

Capitalist dreams too?

Of course for a real mess, you can't beat Fannie and Fredie that were an unregulated mix. It is very dishonest to blame capitalism for the interventionist mess we are in. Mark to market, naked short selling, etc.

Who blamed capitalism for exploiting targets of opportunity? Not me. I was only offering sauce for the goose. No matter which persuasion you lean toward ..they will most likely have more nightmares realized than dreams fulfilled.

They eventually turn into a game of Monopoly, even if you have anti-combine laws, since they can be bypassed with enough lobbying. Socialist dreams start out as a game of Monopoly.

400 years ago, the disillusioned and oppressed could always go to the "new world" for a fresh start.....

They were the lucky ones.
