Hi All,

really would like to know which filter would you use in high temp/high pressure (bigger oil pump) conditions in a Sylvia track engine with very low oil tolerance numbers (so excellent filtration needed).

Maybe lately appeared new filters I didn't know!

Tough combo. High volume with (no doubt) high visc oil and wanting excellent filtration ...while dwelling in track conditioins.

The racing filters are sieves. Is this for a Nissan? If it's a 3/4-16 thread filter, and you have room, there are larger alternatives. You can naturally remote mount.

Yes, sorry, i forgot to say i'm remote mounting it to use a bigger one to solve some surging issues of my high volume pump.

There are race application specific filters out there. I know Moroso offers them. You might want to check the new Royal Purple filters out as well.

What physical size restrictions do you have? In the 3/4-16 thread there's the most variety of sizes.

As was mentioned, Moroso offers a remote racing mount. I think it's a 1 1/2-16 thread filters. These are diesel filters that have up to a 30 gallon flow capacity.

The mount is not cheap.

The only limitation is the filter lenght up to 6", thanks
 
The HP1 filter is what I'd use for a 3/4-16 thread with a 6" limitation. There's a few different brands that make it, but it's racing specific and has a 22psi bypass valve. The Fram version is available in most auto parts stores. Wix has a racing version too, 51515R. Flows 28GPM, but the micron level is only 61. Shouldn't be a problem unless you're running ridiculously tight clearances, which you shouldn't be doing on a track motor anyhow.

You do not want a filter without a bypass valve. If you do, they're available, but I would highly recommend a plumbed bypass valve with the setting you desire.

If you're lucky, you'll just breach the media and be ignorant of it for as long as the filter is on the engine. In the worst case, it will act like a sail and collapse the center tube and starve the engine for oil flow.

All the racing filters are sieves ..but you're probably putting more wear on it from the racing than you are in poor filtering. If this is a daily driver, I would not recommend racing filters unless your racing is going to have you routinely refreshing the engine every few years anyway.

The HP line of FRAM has the same cardboard innards as the lowest priced Orange Can. It just as Swiss Cheese for media.
 
Here's a company that can sell you a check valve with any cracking pressure you can spec. Plumb it between the in:eek:ut lines of the filter and you can use any filter you desire without fear of breaching the media.

Many of the filters spec'd for VW/AUDI should work well too if that's the way you're leaning. Most of them have reinforced media and ultra high bypass valve settings.

Ok, I read about that..
I saw that I can put filter till lenght 6.5",
so what would be your absolutely first choice in 3/4-16 measure with high filtration, high flow, high bypass setting ?

Most non-race filters peak out at under 10gpm ..even the Audi/VW applications. They have the higher bypass settings. They're not of "exceptional" filtration, but what would be termed OEM level.

Most of the bigger filters are not of exceptional bypass valve setting, but probably would produce less PSID at higher flow rates than those with the higher bypass settings.

An EaO26 is a long filter with better filtration, but will have a common (10+/-) bypass rating. It's approximately the same size as a 51773 WIX.

Here's all the Donaldson filters in the 3/4-16 thread. They're probably of the highest availability internationally. I don't have the convenient tools for MANN and others.

See what suits your fancy. You've got a difficult set of criteria to meet.

I don't see any reference to a bypass valve in those racing filters. Is Moroso saying their race filters don't have a bypass valve? If so, they must flow very well, and Moroso probably expects you to change is very often to prevent added filter PSID due to loading. The look impressive in order to filter and flow as well as they claim.
 
Nissanized, you can try using a CantonMecca CM filter. They're made for and used in track cars.

High volume, non-bypassing depth filtration as opposed to bypass surface filtration. i use one in my modified 3000GT VR4 that I run on-track with Red Line 10w40 oil.
