It could have been related to the fiber end caps if the fiber end cap wasn't very thick and stiff, and deformed enough to where the ADBV wouldn't seal 100% against the end cap.

Its the nitrile ADBV, if you have every cut open an orange can you can tell the ADBV isnt made of the highest quality materials. The TG and Ultra however, are of great quality.

True, nitrile isn't as good as silicone. But as I said above, if the fiber end cap deforms too much during use, it could cause the ADBV to leak regardless of the materiel it's made of.

The nitrile ADBV's on the orange cans I've cut are the flimsiest I've ever handled. A penny or two more per filter could probably correct that.

Never the less they still work well for me in some applications, like our aging Lumina, but anything picky about ADBV's like the Jeep, forget it.

With the spring pressure in the can holding everything tight does it really matter unless you cut the can open? The only fiber end disc oil filter I knowingly used was the Fram orange can. Actually even FORD Motorcraft filters had the same exact problem.... There was a time and even now some Motorcraft Oil Filters have black ( NON SILICONE ) ADBV and it did just want you said.

Then Ford Enineieers figured to use Silcone ADBV and that fixed that very same problem.

Also there are some oil filters that have NO ADBV.... Since the Oil Filter sits FLAT / LEVEL with there is no way oil can drain out.. I saw this on my 2007 Trial Blazer when I went to get a FRAM TOUGH GAURD Oil filter for it.. Matter of fact 90% of the oil filters sold for my Trial blazer will say ADBV * NONE *

Like this.

Then why do you think Fram switched to metal end caps on their top-of-the-line ULTRA?

The Fram Ultra has two layers of media sandwiched with a wire screen, it's simply not going to move or rip. You need the metal caps for the extra thick media.

I've never seen a Fram Ultra with a rip or Wavy media for that matter. I consider that my go to filter now.

I always use FRAM extraguard on my 3000miles oil changes, it costs me between $29-45 to get one delivered from USA PH7317 for my wifes car and PH5752 for my car.

Why do i pay so much?

I like fiber end caps
Never failed on me
Engine is always clean and oil is like Honey even after 3k miles
I like orange
I like the suregrip
I like supporting American companies and small shops i buy them from. From all over USA on ebay.
I like having to wait for one to arrive from Merica oh yeah!!!
Am i American living in Australia? NO i am Greek living in Australia but i love supporting Americans as they are the role model of western modern life, and the ones that fight against those that want to destroy us and the freedom we have.
Its called Boycotting, my money only is only spent on western made products when possible, 90% of the time.

Most any oil filter should easily handle a 3k nmi. oci, even the China sourced DriveWorks will easily get that.

As for paying $29-45 just to use an orange can for 3k miles..

To each their own.

I would at least get the tough guard myself. Might not be too terribly more seeing how shipping is your obvious expense here.
