Walmart has a LG ZTE Z750C smart phone on sale for 150 bucks with a 4G SD card. It is a non-contract cell phone. Straight Talk, (which I hear Verizon owns) offers unlimited talk, text and data for 45 bucks a month. Questions.....

1. Does this Android 4.1 Wi-Fi compatable have hot spot capability?

2. Can you download movies and watch them on your TV with a Google type TV/WiFi device?

What are the Pro's and Con's with this set up?

Thanks,

LCM

Verizon doesn't own StraightTalk. StraightTalk uses Verizon's network, but that doesn't always mean you'll get Verizon-level call quality/coverage/service. I believe they have arrangements with all four big providers, depending on the region you're in and the specific device you have.

I suspect it does not have hot spot capabilities since that's often an upcharge and needs an add-on feature/plan.

Also, that is a ZTE phone, not LG. ZTE is Chinese, LG is Korean.

Straight Talk contracts with Net10, which means T-Mobile, AT&T, or Verizon for service, depending on which device and/or SIM card you use. Do your homework to make sure the best service for this device works well where you need it.

You can probably get away with limited tethering or streaming to a TV - use of your mobile data connection as a wifi hotspot is a violation of the TOS. You may or may not have your connection throttled or terminated with no notice.

The folks at Howardforums will probably have more detailed and up-to-date information to help you make the right call for your needs.

You may want to consider republicwireless.com, they have Motorola MOTO-X for $299 with $25/mo unlimited talk, text and data; They also have 30 days money-back guarantee "We want you to love your phone and service, so if you're not feeling it, send it back for a refund on both. Simple as that."

HTSS_TR...do you have any experience with republicwireless? That looks very interesting!

No, I personally don't have republic wireless phone, but my BIL has it for his family and he like it better than Verizon. When my current 2 year plan with Verizon expired next year I will switch to republic wireless.

Paying near full retail price for the phone(s), but with much lower monthly cost then the phone price can be recouped in about 1 year or less.

Do you know if you can listen to Pandora unlimited on republic wireless? Thanks HTSS!
