I will always remember the video of him stepping of the last rung of the platform on that balloon and quickly disappearing from site as fell towards the earth. He struggled a bit with spin but got it straightened out and broke the sound barrier as he fell. What an incredible feat.

Talk about setting your hair on fire... I was reading about his space jump and it said he broke the sound barrier on the way down. I didn't even know that was possible but I guess if the air density is low enough then his terminal velocity was up there.

I'm certain he died doing absolutely what he loved. Some guys just whittle away the time until their bodies stop working. As for me... I'll probably get shot by a jealous husband.

That video is indelibly set in my mind. It was scary and breathtaking and awesome all at the same time. That guy was the ultimate thrill seeker.
