OK, spill it, what is your favorite cheap wine - under $10 for a 750ml bottle?

Sometimes I feel like having a glass of wine, but I don't want to spend a lot on it. What's good out there that you can recommend?

I've tried Black Swan (Australian) - it was OK. Sutter Home was so so. I just bought Yellow Tail, but haven't tried it yet.

Carlo Rossi Sangria Ha, ha, I haven't said enough about my location for the taste police to ever find me. They will have to stake out every Wally's in northern USA.

I don't consider under $10 as cheep. $10 should get a you a pretty decent wine. Sometimes I'll go $12.99. Mostly I don't drink much wine anymore. I don't drink white wine at all.

Costco seems to have good deals and does Trader Joes.

From Italy I like Gabiano. http://www.castellodigabiano.com/

Most other imports suck for the bucks.

From USA, California is good.

Mondavi has some good low cost wines.
My favorite low cost wine always remains:
Sebastiani

With global warming Washington is gaining. I find WA wines to be overpriced, but usually mechanically sound.

Did someone say cheap?

Avia Cabernet Sauvignon(sp?) or Merlot, last I knew it usually ran about $6 for a 1.5 L bottle. We think it's an excellent value, & have found it to be better than quite a few wines that sell for a lot more.

Last time I bought Black Tower in a bottle resembling a Tower, it was imported from Germany by a US based company, correct me if I am wrong.

Cheap?

Only choices are Arbor Mist, T. J. Swan, and Boones Farm. Matter of fact they're the only wines I'll drink! Well under $5 qt.

Sure I have no class, but ask if I give a D___!

We can be Chuckleheads about Gallo, but some of their burgundy offerings are not that bad with a good homegrown spagetti dinner. I used to get the 1.5 liter bottle....had a cork and everything. Cap is better when you want to save some for later, though.

'Rene Barbier' is like a Spanish Pinot Grigio. Under 6 bucks. The house wine at a respected Philly restaurant. (i've never tried the red, only white)

From what i recall Italy puts out many reds that are inexpensive and consistently good-- Citra and Dragani. I think they may be about 7 bucks

Nope, we used to get Rossi Burgundy & Paisano in the 4 L jugs. Even some visitors from Europe thought the Burgundy was a good table wine. Now, *that's* bang for the buck!

I do not drink, but the Charles Shaw merlot sold at Trader Joe's for less than $5/bottle has been highly regarded by both our local newspaper and those I know.

Tonight a Portuguese cheapie, $15.99 Bairrada (DOC) from Caves Imperio S.A, Sanghalos, Portugal. 1999 Reserva. No idea what it's like just went on the wine shops recommendation. Probaby rot gut!

I owe an apology to "Gurkha".

I'm old enough to remember the original Black Tower crock, it was a Leibfraumilch and the label read "from countries of the European Union".

It has since been "upmarketed" and is now actually FROM Germany and is a Rivaner varietal, and may in fact be quite good.

My bad....
