Not only can you cover it up, they specifically ask that you do cover it up, along with your address and any other information they don't need in order to confirm your identity.

Furthermore, you don't have to give them a copy of your Driver's license. They will accept many different forms of ID.

You can confirm your identity in 1 of 3 ways. When submitting documentation, please cover up any personal information we don't need to verify your identity (ex: credit card number, Social Security number). We encrypt people’s connections to Facebook by default, including IDs you send to us. We delete your ID information after verification is complete.

Option 1

We will accept any government-issued ID that contains your name and date of birth. Examples include:

Birth certificate
Driver’s license
Passport
Marriage certificate
Official name change paperwork
Personal or vehicle insurance card
Non-driver's government ID (ex: disability, SNAP card, national ID card)
Green card, residence permit or immigration papers
Voter ID card
Option 2

You can provide two different forms of ID from the following list (ex: a bank statement and a library card, but not two bank statements). The names on your IDs must match each other, and one of the IDs must include a photo or date of birth that matches the information on your profile.

Below are some examples of IDs we'll accept:

Bank statement
Bus card
Check
Credit card
Employment verification
Library card
Mail
Magazine subscription stub
Medical record
Membership ID (ex: pension card, union membership, work ID, professional ID)
Paycheck stub
Permit
School card
School record
Social Security card
Utility bill
Yearbook photo (actual scan or photograph of the page in your yearbook)
Option 3

If you don’t have an ID that shows your authentic name as well as your photo or date of birth, you can provide two forms of ID from Option 2 above, and then provide a government ID that includes a date of birth or photo that matches the information on your profile. We won't add the name or other information from the government ID to your account.

All they are really asking for is something that shows your name, birth date, and picture. If you're following the rules of Facebook, they already have this information anyway. If you're not following the rules, that's probably why they're asking for it.

That being said, I'm always amazed at the elitism displayed on this forum from the people that somehow think they're better people because they don't have a FB account. It's probably the same ones that think they're better people because they don't have a cell phone. They make comments like get rid of FB and get a life or I don't want to waste time finding out what strangers are doing. Meanwhile, they spend time on an internet forum about oil, doing exactly what they despise. Carry on with your hypocritical ways........

Nothing hypocritical about it nor is it elitism. You seem to have turned into what you are trying to disparage. You seem to have contempt for those who dislike FB and make it sound like we are all cavemen still living in a world without fire. What you are doing brings to mind an old saying, "don't throw rocks if you live in a glass house".

Forums like BITOG are there to discuss specific topics( oil, vehicles, hunting, music, or whatever ). People come to the forums to talk about the topics, learn, ask questions, etc.. not themselves( mostly ). FB is about sharing personal info about yourself period.

Trying to compare time spent on a message forum to time spent on FB doesn't work for me anyway. 2 totally different things. The only commonality is they are both accessed online. Postings on FB range from see photos of my trip to I am tired and going to bed. All personal stuff. Postings on a message forum are about specific topics. On BITOG that would be something like what oil should I use or my vehicle is acting weird and I need help fixing it. Just no comparison.

I could care less that people use FB. When I talk about it I do so over ridiculous things like asking for a DL. I get riled up is when people get on me for NOT using it. I find it nothing but a waste of time and a place mostly for self promotion. Nothing about FB's legit uses I can't accomplish through e-mail and/or phone calls. I don't need it to track down long lost friends either because I wouldn't have lost track if they really mattered to me.

JMHO and you have the right to disagree. Just don't start a fight and start labeling people. That is uncalled for. If someone speaks negatively about you for using FB or FB users in general then direct your comments to them specifically. Don't make blanket statements please.

So we have ten pages of posts by several people who don't know that you can cover up the DL number and the address if/when FB asks for this info.

I have some swamp land fellas.....

Can you show me where I said anything negative about people not using FB? If you don't want to use it, don't. I don't judge people by their social media usage. However, there were post made saying negative things about those that do, along with a smug attitude of being a better person for not using it.

I've seen people post pictures of tattoos, haircuts, and other personal things on BITOG. I've seen people ask about dating, tell us they're depressed, discuss their financial woes, tell us about thier favorite song, what to do on vacation, what stickers belong on a car, brag about their new phone, stereo, or car. BITOG even has a photo section. The only difference is the format, and every member is a complete stranger to me. I know every person I interact with on FB.

Since you're not on FB, how can you say the two sites aren't similar?

Wrong answer. You can't look at picture's over the telephone. It's cheaper than long distance too.

I would say you were extremely critical of those not using FB. If you want to see where just look at your post I quoted and responded to above. You may think you were addressing someone specific but you cast your net to include everyone who said they did not use FB including those who did so respectfully. If you comments were specific to any group or person it was not conveyed well. Just came across as being directed at all of us who said we have no use for it. You used words like elitism, hypocrites, etc... and then you made a comment about how non FB users probably don't use cell phones either. You do not think that is being critical of others? Man, I would hate to see what you think IS being critical.

Just because I do not personally use FB does not mean I have no clue what it is or how it works. I actually at times have to integrate FB sites with the websites I do even though I try hard no to get involved with that( I agree only to save the project/job ). I know people who are on it as well who talk incessantly about it as if it is some magical land of awesome. FB is what it is and that is no secret.

I will also point out that when I said people come to message forums they do so for specific reasons BUT I included a caveat which was ( mostly ). On many forums, and BITOG is one, they offer general forums where anything can be discussed. It would be those general forums that would have somewhat of a comparison to FB but not the rest of the site's forums. I agree, there is a lot of personal stuff that gets discussed in the General Forum at BITOG. That isn't why most people come here though. They come for the oil/automotive stuff and then sometimes they get involved with the other. FB is all about the other and just the other. As said, a message forum and FB are not the same. Well, maybe if the message forum was a place to talk about yourself all the time they would be. BITOG though is nothing like FB.

Use FB if you like it. I could care less. Please don't waste your time or mine trying to convince me I am missing anything or that it is some awesome thing though. I know exactly what it is and it is nothing that interests me or that is in any way special or unique.

You e-mail the photos although you can also send them from cell to cell FWIW.

As far as long distance charges apply. Are you really still using a plan that charges extra for long distance? "Most" land line plans these days include call anywhere( in the US anyway )at no extra charge. "Most" cell plans allow for this as well.

I haven't paid a long distance call fee in a good decade+.

Alright.... they win. I have gotten too used to Facebook.

I will play their little game. Let us see if they will accept my DL, with name and DOB, but identifying # on it and address whited out.

I have SMS and MMS i can see pictures all day on my phone and it cost me nothing more than i pay anyway.
I talk to my kids and family all the time and it cost me nothing extra.
