Yet here you are, posting on an internet forum to a bunch of strangers.

BITOG has a picture forum, where people share photos of their cars. There is also a Food and Drink forum, where people talk (and share pictures) about their food. I'm not sure about using the toilet, but there are a number of members here who'd like a Home Improvement forum. I'm sure toilets would get discussed there. There are constant threads about things happening in everyday life: What happened, where it happened, why it happened, how it happened, who it happened to, etc.

Tell me again how what we do here is really that much different than Facebook?

Tell you again? I didn't tell you anything in the first place so don't waste your time and mine, there is no discussion.

What is amazing to me is that an emerging media trying to keep span and questionable identities down gets such a severe response from you.

Whats with the jealousy or oddball behavior that you HAVE to hate FB so much.

Kind of sad, Id say. Lots of better things to expend energy on than a hatred of FB.

Right. It's great to use your telephone to access facebook in order to stay in touch with family and close friends.

We live in a pathetic society. I cant post my real feelings about it. lol

I am with you. I don't get the whole FB thing either. Nothing about it an e-mail can't do exactly the same and it is something private for those intended and not looked at by strangers. Doesn't take any longer to send an email then it does to update a FB page either so it isn't a time thing.

For me, the day to day unimportant things can be handled via e-mail with family and friends. The important stuff gets a face to face or a phone call.

So, JHZR2. You just KNOW that im not using my real name on Facebook? A LOT of what you say about this seems predicated on that.

I figured I'd ask.

(And you would also be susurprised at how long I wear underwear. Since there are some good LOLs on this thread.)

Something about my persona ... keeps 'em talkin'.

** (it was asked "does my information match." Well, my e-mail.. actually was a Facebook-specific e-mail. As that is the besy way to keeo spam out, etc. Facebook even got my phone number, for "Messenger," and robo-calls began.. now this. And a "Frenemy" is one that portends to be a friend.. but reports content and things, while acting friendly. As was the fellow I Inboxed. It seems a constant. It *might now* be what happened, but I cannot think of what else.)

Why no alternate method of verifying it? Why my ID? They really think they are getting that? Really? With real, actual D.L.#s? So the next hack, the next troll, the next female stalker from the BBW forum that follows me even onto the Credit forum.. can have that? Maybe next step is try to use it to send police to my house? Are they for real? .. and you have NO idea how much of what I say has actually happened. It is a rich field of experience. I now live my life with no fear.

Want my I.D.? Detain me. Otherwise you can see my rear...

These paragraphs say enough to me...

I've never given a phone number, address, ID, etc. never been asked to. Wonder why.

I didn't ask you to put your name, email handle and fb handle out on here for privacy reasons (hint, don't). But just the slightest bit of reading indicates that you failed at multiple other more benign authentication schemes, and this is a last-ditch effort.

So you NEVER show your ID to private businesses?

There are certain things that require you to show your ID when you purchase them.

Many businesses require ID to be shown when making a purchase with a check or credit/debit card.

Some businesses even require you to show ID before they will even let you in the door.

I have to show my ID pretty much on a daily basis as part of work. Some places I have to go, they take your ID while you're on their premises and give it back when you leave. Other places make a photocopy of it.

It's really not a big deal. Facebook is just trying to verify you are who you say you are. Apparently they have reason to believe that you're not using your real name, which is a violation of their policy. They're not using this information for any illicit purposes.

Very quickly: Showing I.D. is not required and actually a banned merchant practice by Visa and Mastercard. Stores that impose this violate their merchant agreement with Visa and MC, and you can report them. A signed card needs no ID. An unsigned card.. does.

Did you know this?

As to Facebook.. this all came suddenly, and no alternate verification was performed or requested. Sure, I do a lot om FB, but that should not matter... not sure I can sway people's belief, either.

I highly doubt that there was no other verification. I'll bet that you've changed your obamaphone number twice and didn't read the email they sent.

But as for credit cards, you're absolutely right and I walk out of stores that ask for Id on a signed card.

JHZR2, I think we might be getting lost in some details that take away from a different point. So, please, let me ask you a different question: Would you TRUST Facebook with (naturally a copy of) your DL? Your official identifying document as a human on this earth, or one of them? I certainly wouldn't.

We can make suppositions about aliaii, etc, but I am not a particularly trusting soul. Facebook is not selling me an age-restrictes product, or detaining me. Sure, I desire to use their service. But if a condition of that becomes to show my I.D., for any reason (*would the end result not be that they have it? You think they throw it away? They sell it..) then it comes to a point where I may end my use of their service. I can't see how or why you would trust Facebook with your DL info. If you are saying you would show it. We have established that you have never been asked.

Is this making more sense about my view, while being less stand-offish sounding? I have faults, but im not a complete moron.

Hallelujah! I knew you felt that I could hold intelligent conversation. Or I am sure I would not be here. Kudos, JHZR2. I am pleased to hear we share the same view on the credit card policy. Thank you.

As to Facebook... truth be told. I have never had the Obamaphone. Not even once. Though I use no-contract exclusively now. Metro PCS is a good fit for me. Does not cost much money, (as it has been suggested I waste,) and .. does good. No O-phone though. They thought my name seemed odd. I have a 10-letter Italian last name. Sometimes, out of nowhere and seemingly after contacting specific people, even if once via Inbox (*they can still report you,) it signs me out. Last week, it asked me to "change my name." I did so. Simar to my last, as I resented it. I sent out one more Inbox, curious if there was a link. Now they want an ID. No "match the pictures," that.. did not occur. I was sitting waitinh for the truck to be returned after the brake work when this happened. I made a note in my mental: "Alignmment = Serious. BITOG not thrilled with me and this latest vehicle. Remedy soon. Do not further neglect." Since I work two jobs now. And I was actually mad at myself that I left my former work promptly after a stressful day.. and missed a genuine chance to make your acquaintance by about a half hour. Has always stuck in my head. I make more money now. No more vids of guys cursing changing a starter. Hope that this is all well received. Slow work day today!

Who in the bleepity-bleep does all that!!??

Any place that has a security interest in knowing who is coming and going from their property.

As a truck driver, I go to lots of places where they are very serious about security. Some even go above and beyond simply showing ID. Some of these places have armed security guards, do a full search of your vehicle before allowing you in (and again before you leave) , and some even have the double gate system like you would see at a prison.

On the other hand, I also go to many places where you can just walk in and nobody even cares.

Adesa USA in Manville NJ is like that. Full vehicle search including undercar, etc.

I wonder what retailers/stores, beyond a members-only rip off, do that, though.

I would have no problem providing it if asked. Why? Because Facebook has absolutely nothing to gain by using my information for illicit purposes.

So does everyone else on the Internet. Doesn't matter if you're on Facebook, some other social media site, browsing BITOG, reading the news, or watching porn. No matter what you're doing on the Internet, someone is collecting your data and using it for profit.

Using it like I use it, sharing pics of my kids, or quotes from them, is like I imagine many non-egomaniacs using it.

I would find it weird to call my mom, my aunt, the best man at my wedding, my cousin, etc to tell them OMG you know what my 7 year old did today?

So I stick it to my "wall" and they find it when they log in and want to "see what everyone's up to." This is less obtrusive on everyone involved, IMO.

A phone call is for something urgent, not to chat, I feel.
