Would there be any damage done by running a 16 inch spare for short distances (say 50 miles or so) if the rest of the tires are 17 in? The truck is a 2001 so it does have the CVs up front and it has limited slip in the rear. Thanks for any opinions.

Whimsey is right...don't run different diameter tire/wheel combinations with a limites slip rear end for very far...it will cause major wear. With an open differential I would limit my speed to a crawl because the spider gears have to walk around in the carrier to make up for the diffferent diameters.

I don't think it's wise to do at all. But definitely don't put the 16" wheel on a limited slip axle with a 17" wheel. You'll destroy your diff in no time. The only exception is if the overall diameter of the 16" wheel with the tire is the same as the 17" wheel and it's tire.
